Funeral services for Randall W. Cummings were held on Friday, December 24, 2010 at 10:00 AM at the Oaks High School Gym in Oaks, OK with Reverend Leighton Reed officiating. Interment followed at Bill Batt Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Reed-Culver Funeral Home of Tahlequah.
Randall Wayne Cummings was born on August 7, 1951 in Tahlequah, OK, the son of Eagle Kingfisher and Lucille Cummings. After high school , he attended Bacone College and Northeastern State University. On November 23, 1973 he married the love of his life, Betty Lou John, in Farmington, NM. They have been blessed with four children and thirty-seven wonderful years.
Randall worked as a carpenter most of his working years and was the Building Trades Instructor for the Cherokee Nation before retirement. He was very active in his community and Tribe(s). His most important job was serving his Lord as an ordained minister, he was Pastor of New Mission Church in Rocky Ford, OK. He has been an active member of the Oaks Mission School District where he was first appointed in 1991 by former Governor Walters at the recommendation of former Chief Wilma Mankiller. She also appointed him to serve as President of the Rocky Ford Community so that ground work could begin for the present Rocky Ford Community Building. He was also very active being a member of the United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee Indians. He was a loving husband and father, not only to his own family, but those who sought his help as well. Randall was a compassionate, caring man who had the gift of inspiration. He was always there for those who needed him and served as a source of encouragement to all. His blessings were many which included his talent for crafting such as making flutes, bows, stickball sticks and also designed a few t-shirts. He loved fishing, gigging, golfing and of course, watching OU football with his son. He treasured the time he spent with his family especially his grandchildren. His priority was reading and studying his Bible, praying for the welfare of others. His wonderful sense of humor will be greatly missed by all those fortunate to call him friend. The Lord called Randall to his eternal home on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at his home in Rocky Ford with his family by his side. He was fifty-nine years old.
Randall is preceded in death by his mother, Lucille and father, Eagle, both in 2007, his beloved daughter, Cheryl in 2005, his adored son Samuel in 2006, one brother, Abel “Boss” Cummings in 2007, as well as sister in law, Nancy Cummings in 2006.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife Betty of the home in Rocky Ford, one son, Benjamin Cummings (wife Traci) of Rocky Ford, and one daughter, Larissa Cummings-Ortiz (husband Hector) of Oaks, OK. He leaves one brother, Jack Ross (wife Rosie), two sisters, Brenda “Cookie” O’Field (husband Michael) and Linda Buckhorn (husband James) both of Rocky Ford. He also leaves two half brothers and one half sister, Ray Kingfisher, Sam Kingfisher, and Bonnie Romero, all of Tahlequah. His legacy lives on in his seven grandchildren, Nakoma RomanNose, Alacyn, T.J. (Tyras), Alyssa and Ashley Cummings, and Kyleigh and Hector Ortiz Jr., as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
