Pearl May (Southerland) Johnson was born on January 5th, 1946, in Muskogee, OK, the daughter of Euval and Rosa Mae (Parker) Southerland. She grew up around Ft. Gibson and Muskogee, and was the eldest child of the family, having a younger sister, Murl Ann and a younger brother, Euval Southerland. She was artistically inclined from a young age, and also authored a 1000 page book entitled “Rinky Dink”. She graduated from Ft. Gibson High School in 1964, and then met and married her best friend, David Johnson. Together they would raise a son, Daniel. There was nothing more important to Pearl than caring for her husband and son. When the chores were done, she loved to catch up on her reading. She was an accomplished artist and worked in various mediums crating beautiful works of art. She loved creating good food in the kitchen and long, leisurely walks in the woods. She found people so interesting and enjoyed talking on the phone, catching up on the latest news. She had the sweetest smile and a laugh that made you want to laugh with her. She was kind, and unselfish with her time and talents. There was nothing better than a chance to gather with the family she loved for a holiday or a weekend. Her health began to fade and she retired to Lexington, OK. She lost her husband David in 2019. A Christian by faith, Pearl was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ft. Gibson, and loved her church family. The Lord called this wonderfully artist sister, wife and mother home from her labors on November 18, 2021 in Lexington, OK. She was 75 years old and will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, her mother and father, and her husband, David.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Daniel Johnson of Norman, OK, one sister, Murl Ann Southerland-Tackett and husband Darwin of Ft.Gibson, OK, and her brother, Euval Southerland and wife Denise of Coweta, OK.
