Melody Angela Coppetti, or Melmel to her family and friends, was born on February 25th, 1963 in Oakdale, CA, the daughter of George Joseph Coppetti and Beatrice (Scott) Coppetti. Her family relocated to the Tahlequah area. It was here she had fun with two brothers and three sisters, Teresa, Latisha, Kent, Jackie, and Gary. She then began her college classes at Northeastern State University. She supported herself working at Davis Nursing Care as a certified nurses aide. It wasn’t long afterward she discovered her love of carpentry. She worked construction work for many years and ended her career as the bar manager at Tuxey’s Tavern. When she wasn’t working, she was all about her family, and her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. Her twins were her greatest achievement in life she often told people. With the birth of her grandchildren, the picture albums came out and you got to see the apples of her eyes. She was always in the company of her canine companions, Usdi, Aby, Nanner and Bella, she loved them. She also loved to shoot a good game of pool, excelled at tennis and could bowl with the best of them. As a young lady, she often got off at work and spent a few hours with her friends at Tuxey’s Tavern. Tuxey’s Tavern was the family owned bar and she helped to make it the popular, fun packed place it was. If you knew Tuxey’e Tavern, you knew Mel. She was happy searching out “collectibles” and displaying her treasure from yard sales and antique shops. There was always a fun time when she gathered with friends and told stories about the “good ole days” and all the antics she got up to in her younger years. She didn’t know any strangers, but she had a lot of friends that she met and then kept up with as she was able. She was one of the most loyal and loving friend, daughter, mother and grandmother you could ask for. She would give you the shirt off her back if she thought it would help. She had many plans for the future but these were not to be. She passed from this life on April 26th, 2023 at her home in Briggs, OK, surrounded by the family that adored her. She was 60 years old and will be greatly missed.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Angelo and Zita Coppetti and Annabelle “Tuxey” Nofire and Leasor Scott. She also joins her Mother and Father, her sister, Latisha Swepston, her uncle, Ronnie Perry, brother in law Marvin Holdridge, and her best friend, Billie Sue Hathcoat.
Those left to celebrate her memory include her twins, Kaley Crittenden Smith and husband Austin of Hulbert, OK, and Kyler Crittenden and wife Breonna of Tahlequah, OK. She leaves her brothers and sisters, Teresa Holdridge of Muskogee,OK, Kent Swepston and wife Becky of Cookson, OK, Jackie Swepston of Tahlequah, OK, and Gary Coppetti of Salinas, CA. She lives on in her three grandchildren, Zane Smith of Hulbert, OK, Jason Crittenden of Tahlequah, OK, and Kynley Smith of Hulbert, OK, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones too numerous to mention. The family would like to take this moment to give a heartfelt thanks to Shawna Tyer, Peggy Stopp, Cordia Barnes, Talisha Osburn, Becky Wadley, Joel Maker, and Charlotte Jackson for helping the family care for Mel in her final days, staying late and making sure she was comfortable. You helped us more than you will ever know.
