Margaret (Patrick) Carter was born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma on September 19, 1914. Margaret passed from this life May 30, 2010. She was the daughter of Teddy and Florence (Wallace) Patrick.
Margaret and R.C. met in Tahlequah and it was truly love at first sight. After some time dating, the two decided to spend the rest of their days together. The young couple rode from Park Hill, Oklahoma to Qualls, Oklahoma on horseback to be wed by the Justice of the Peace (Levi P. Dunn), on June 9, 1934.
Margaret was an adventurous person, loved the outdoors, and was a very avid fisherman. She especially loved spending her days on a pond bank with the people she loved the most just cutting jokes, telling stories, and teaching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren what she knew about fishing. Actually catching fish was just a plus. On any given day you could see Margaret either sitting on the front porch waving at the people she knew driving by, tending to her garden, or sitting on the back porch keeping a close eye on the cattle and enjoying the simple things in life. She also loved to sit and visit with anyone. Within moments of meeting her she could tell you your entire life story and your family tree. She also loved getting the family together at her home in Park Hill, and spending the day visiting with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and homemaker for many, many years.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters, two brothers, a daughter-in-law, an infant son in 1935, and her loving husband (R.C.) in 1997.
Those left to cherish her memory are her three children: Patsy Smith and husband Ronald of Tulsa, Jerry Carter and his wife Charolette of Park Hill, and Ronald Carter and his wife Janice of Park Hill. Three sisters: Jean Helm of Dallas, TX, Lenora Taylor of Tahlequah, and Evangeline Cine of Tahlequah. Five grandchildren: David and Rebecca Carter of Park Hill, Lacey and Heather Carter of Park Hill, Ryan and Lisa Carter of Park Hill, Merry Carter of Park Hill and Galen and Shannon Carter of Farmington, NM. Her legacy will also continue to live on in her fourteen great grandchildren: Shane Messinger, Dustin Butler, Alisha Carter Rice, Hannah Carter, Josh Carter, Thomas Carter, Ashton Carter, Katie Carter, Bridget Carter, Hanah Dougherty, Emma Carter, Olivia Carter, Lacey Carter, and Maggie Carter also in her three great-great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Wednesday June 2, 2010 at the Reed-Culver Funeral Chapel with Bro. Nelson Cummins officiating. Interment will follow in the Park Hill Cemetery under the direction of Reed-Culver Funeral Home. Visit www.reedculver.com to leave online condolences
