Wagoner, OK- Funeral services for Lawrence Lee Ogden will be held on Friday, April 19th, 2013 at 9:30 AM at Reed-Culver Chapel with Pastor Nick Pruitt officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 18th, 2013 at Reed-Culver Chapel from 10:00 AM until 8:00 PM. Interment will be held following services Friday, at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery at 11:00 AM, with honors provided by Ft. Sill Army Honor Guard. Services are under the direction of Reed-Culver Funeral Home of Tahlequah, OK. Pallbearers for Lawrence include Bruce McCollough, James Ogden, David Craig, Ricky Steeley, Riley Steeley, and Ray Goode. Honorary pallbearers include Claude Dell Steeley, Ralph Thomas, and Jim Thomas.
Lawrence Lee Ogden was born on March 14th, 1925 in Pettigrew, AR, the son of Troy and Lillian (White) Ogden. When Lawrence turned about 4 years old, his family resettled to Cherokee County, OK where his parents engaged in farming. He attended Downing School and Lone Star School in Mayes County. He attended high school in Locust Grove. It was during WWII that Lawrence was enlisted to serve his country, and on August 21st, 1944, he joined the US Army .He was a proud member of L Company and served as a Combat Infantryman with the 222nd Infantry in Germany and Eastern Europe. He was awarded the Occupation Army Ribbon, two Bronze Stars, two Overseas Service Bars, and the EAME Theatre Campaign Metal. He was honorably discharged on the 11th of July 1946. He returned to Oklahoma and married the love of his life, Imogene Lorene Steeley on August 31st, 1946 in Wagoner, OK. This union was blessed with 55 years of marriage and two children, Carol and Mark. Lawrence went to work as an Air Craft Mechanic accomplishing 10 years with Douglas and 19 years at Rockwell, retiring as an Inspector. He was a member of the UAW Union for over 54 years. When Lawrence had free time, he could be found at the local fishing hole, angling for the “big one”. He enjoyed talking on the CB Radio and was affectionately known as “dough bait” on the CB, named for one of his renowned fishing baits. Lawrence was outgoing and loved people. He had no problems expressing himself and had a witty and keen mind. An avid reader, he liked to read a good western, and he never missed a chance to read from his Bible. He loved to spend time with his wife, children, grandchildren and family. He was all about his family. He was proud of all their accomplishments and enjoyed every chance he got to have a talk. Lawrence was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hulbert and enjoyed his many friends he met there. The Lord called Lawrence home from his labors on Sunday, April 14th, 2013 in Tahlequah, OK. He was 88 years old. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Imogene in 2002, and one brother, Ray Ogden in 1968.
Those left to cherish his memory and his love of life include his children, Carol Ogden-Jackson and husband Levi of Hulbert, OK and Mark Ogden of Tulsa, OK. He leaves two brothers, Bob Ogden and wife Wilma of Hulbert, OK and Harold Ogden and wife Yvonne of Tahlequah, OK. His legacy lives on in his five grandchildren, Michael Jackson of Nashville, TN, Deborah Vance and husband Jeff of Tahlequah, OK, Courtney Holt and husband Victor of Phoenix, AZ, Cory Ogden and Amanda of Claremore, OK, and Cheryl Rogers and husband Zach of Broken Arrow, OK. He also leaves four great grandchildren, Drake Vance, Corissa Ogden, Kadience Ogden, and Paris Ogden, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
