Joe L. Barraza

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Joe L. Barraza on Friday, August 23rd,2019 at 10:00 AM at St. Brigid Catholic Church with Father Stuart Crevcoure officiating. A Rosary Service for Joe will be recited on Thursday, August 22nd, 2019 at 7:00 PM at Reed-Culver Funeral Home. His final resting place will be Molly Field Cemetery in Cherokee County, OK. Joe L. Barraza was born on Friday, April 10th, 1942 in Bakersfield, CA, the son of Joe S. and Alicia Marie Barraza. He grew up in a household with three brothers and two sisters, graduated from high school and joined the US Navy, serving as a Signalman on a destroyer, from June 28th, 1962 until his honorable discharge in March 27th, 1964. He met and married his sweetheart, Sherry June Johnson on October 20, 1960. Together they raised three sons and two daughters, Joseph, William, Ricardo, Debera and Alicia. He earned a living as a operator engineer in the construction industry. Whenever he had free time, he loved to go hunting and fishing. He loved the out doors and loved to spend time with his family. He was a proud union member for over 50 years starting in 1957. When he retired from this job, he began a second career as a security guard for Mobil refinery in Bakersfield. He loved people and was easy going and fun to be around. He was a member of Guardian Angel Catholic Church in California. The family relocated to Oklahoma and he joined them, loving to keep up with the kids and all their activities. The Lord called this hard working man home from his labors on Tuesday, August 13th, 2019 in Tulsa, OK with his family by his side. He was 77 years old and will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his mother, father, two sisters, Rita Smith and husband Ray and Gloria Barraza.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Sherry of the home in Kansas, OK, and his children, Joseph Barraza of Arizona, William and Lorene Barraza of Arizona, Ricardo Barraza and wife Crystal of Kansas, OK, Debera Fowler and husband William of El Cajon, CA, and Alicia Marie Gicar and husband Mark of Bakersfield, CA. He leaves his brothers, Nicholas Barraza of Bakersfield, Steve Barraza and wife Maria of Nevada, and Daniel Barraza of Tennessee. He lives on in his 14 grandchildren, Tracey, Nicole, Ricardo, Brianna, Deana, Michael, Matthew, Kimberly, Danielle, Mindy, Brian, Christy, Robert, and Jessica. He also leaves his 6 great great grandchildren, Ricky B. Barraza, Owen Barraza, Audrey June gross, Allya Gross, Josslynn Fowler and Killian Fowler, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
