Jerry Dale Archer was born on August 10th, 1938 in Hichita, Oklahoma, the son of Clyde and Bernice (Morton) Archer. He grew up in a household with three brothers and three sisters. During his younger years, he was very active in FFA, raising and showing pigs. After graduating high school, Jerry Dale took a lot of pride in receiving his bachelor’s degree in Education and went on to complete his Master’s Degree. He was the owner of the Tahlequah Drive-in Theater in the 70s alongside his son who would help him run the projectors. He spent a few years as a Counselor for the Welfare Department before perusing his lifelong passion of teaching. He had the opportunity to be a science teacher and football coach for various schools in the area, such as Oaks Mission High School, Locust Grove High School and concluding his career at Braggs High School acted as Principal for a short time before his retirement. When Jerry Dale wasn’t holding the role Mr. Archer, he enjoyed being outdoors, quail hunting or fishing at the local lakes and rivers. He and his late wife Mary liked to get away for a camping trip where they could fish and spend time together out by the water. An avid equine enthusiast, Jerry was a big fan of horses and even owned a race horse at one time. He liked to get away to the races to cheer on his favorite horse, Cherokee Arky. Above all, he cherished being a dad to his son, Jerry Wayne and was grateful for the years they spent together. Jerry Dale’s health began to fail and was called from his labors on May 8th, 2023 at the age of 84 years old.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his late wife, Mary Louise (Scott) Archer, twin brothers, Clyde and Claude Archer and one sister, Doris Jean Landis.
He will be remembered by his son, Jerry Wayne Archer of Tahlequah, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his brother, Terry Archer and wife Ann of Tulsa, Oklahoma and two sisters, Patricia Lester and husband Mike of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma and Jacqueline Martin of Morgan Hill, California, along with his nieces, nephews and a host of friends and loved ones.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 15th, 2023 at 11:00am at Barber Cemetery in Welling, Oklahoma with Reverend David Wiens officiating. There will be a visitation for family and friends on Friday, May 12th, 2023 from 1:00pm until 5:00pm at Reed-Culver Funeral Home.
