Irene Drywater Fixin Sam Owl was born on Tuesday, July 2nd, 1935 in Moodys, OK, the daughter of Reverend Joe and Lucy (Sands) Drywater. She was blessed with the family name “Sis”, and grew up with five sisters and three brothers, George, Mary, Janie, Jessie, Pauline, Bill, Rosemary and Larry. She attended school at Moodys. She married her first husband Levi Dreadfulwater and together they had a son, Joe. She then was married to Reverend Eli Fixin and the family grew by three more sons and two daughters, Kathleen, Felix, Carolyn, Gerald and Dale. Irene was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a dedicated Christian who enjoyed sharing her ministry through gospel music, which she sang anywhere and everywhere. She faithfully served her Lord and Savior at the Olive Baptist Church in the capacity of Deaconess, teaching Sunday School, served as Treasurer, song leader, and taught classes in Cherokee. She also sang in a quartet that sang at numerous funerals and community occasions too numerous to mention. She was an accomplished seamstress , making quilts and clothing. She was always in the kitchen making the best frybread, dumplings, huckleberry and apple pies, sharing what she had with those around her. There was always time to go to her favorite fishing hole or to catch a few crawdads. She collected dolls and displayed them in her well kept and organized home. She was a determined lady, seldom unhappy and always with a smile on her face. She made sure her family was educated on what they needed to know, to make them successful and happy. She had a sense of humor and a sense of adventure that allowed her to travel about the countryside, making friends as she went. Her Bible was her daily reading, and her service to God never ending. Following Eli’s passing, she married July Sam and then Daniel Owl. She was the grandmother that always kept up with her grandchildren’s activities and encouraged them to do their very best. She loved and adored every one of them. Every new great grandchild was a gift from God and welcomed with open arms. Her health failed her and the Lord called this servant home from her many labors on Tuesday, November 13th, 2018 in Muskogee with her loving family close by her side. She was 83 years old. She leaves a legacy of love and service for her family to follow.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, William Sands and Gennie Dirteater, father, Reverend Joe Drywater, her mother, Lucy Drywater, her brothers and sisters, George Drywater, Mary Brackett, Janie Fields, Jessie Cochran, Pauline Cheater, Reverend William Charles Drywater, her two grandsons, Russell and Eli Gourd, and husbands, Levi Dreadfulwater, Reverend Eli Fixin, and July Sam.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Joe Dreadfulwater and wife Tonya of Muskogee, Kathleen Brown and husband Ted of Muskogee, Felix Fixin and wife Annie of Coweta, Carolyn Fixin of Muskogee, Reverend Gerald Fixin and wife Christina of Rocky Ford, and Dale Fixin and wife Angela of Moodys, OK, Robert Owl and wife Ann of Stilwell, OK, Drywater Owl of Stilwell, OK, Amanda Christie and husband Rick of Greasy, and Sarah Nelson and husband Melvin of Cherry Tree, OK. She is survived by one brother and one sister, Larry Drywater and wife Sandi of Owasso, and Rosemary Ross of Tahlequah, and a sister-in-law, Rebecca Carey-Drywater. She lives on in her 34 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and church family members.
