Evelyn Bernice Fain was born on August 23rd, 1936 in Killeen,TX , the daughter of Floy and Tiny Mae (Tracy) Stowers. She grew up with one brother and two sisters, Gerald, Floy, and Pat. Her family relocated to the Tahlequah area when Evelyn was about 13 years old, and here she graduated from Bagley High School. She met and married her sweet heart, Bill Anson Fain on March 25th, 1955 at her aunts home in Tahlequah. Together they raised a family of two sons and one daughter, Jim, Jack and Mary. Evelyn was an accomplished cattle producer /rancher. She worked tirelessly on the family farm with plenty of cattle, chickens and livestock of a wide variety. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and neighbor. Her household was kept neat and tidy, the meals that came from her kitchen were simply wonderful, from her wide assortment of pies to her mouthwatering roast dinners. Every summer found her raising a large garden of beautiful produce, this was canned and turned into her families meals for the long winters ahead. She could sew almost anything and every one of her children and grandchildren were kept warm by a quilt lovingly crafted by Evelyn’s hands. She was independent, hard working, industrious and one of the most giving, gentle hearted women you would ever meet. She loved her children and adored each and every one of her grandchildren. She followed their interests in life and always took time to spend with them, listening to their stories. Sundays and holidays, she would work tirelessly to make the day special for all those that gathered around her table. You always found an open door and friendly smile waiting at the Fain house. The Lord was her shepherd, and she served Him faithfully all the days of her life. Souls Harbor Church was her second home. She cleaned the church, served Sunday dinners and Funeral Dinners, taught Sunday School, and did whatever was asked of her. She never seemed to tire, always working on the next project for the following day. Her husband Bill passed and Evelyn continued farming with her family supporting her efforts. Quitting wasn’t in her vocabulary. The Lord called this good and faithful servant home from her many labors following a short illness on Saturday, October 20th, 2018 at her home in Proctor, OK, surrounded by those who knew and loved her. She was 82 years old. She leaves a legacy of love and hard work that will be carried on by her family.
