Catharine Marilyn Brown Carter was born on June 5th, 1931 in Anadarko, OK, the daughter of Cody and Mary Alice (Byrd) Brown. She grew up with her sister, Mary Evelyn, on the family ranch outside of Ft. Gibson, tending cattle and helping around the farm. She graduated from school in Ft. Gibson, OK in 1948. She would meet and marry her best friend and sweetheart, A.V. Carter on May 14th, 1949 in Ft. Gibson, OK. This union was blessed with one son and one daughter, Cody and Mary Catharine. She worked several jobs over the years but the one she held most dear was caring for her husband, children and grandchildren. She took pride in her home and was never without handiwork such as crocheting afghans, she made over 300 to give away to whomever needed one to keep warm. There was nothing better than curling up with a good mystery novel or Christian romance classic to read. In her younger years, she loved to bowl in both league and national tournaments with her sister and mother. She enjoyed cooking and became famous for her eclectic holiday dinners in which she cooked everyone's favorite food to accompany the turkey and ham.
When A.V. retired from American Airlines, the two of them set off to see the world and what they could discover. Sometimes this meant landing in L.A. from New Zealand only to turn around and fly out for Hawai. They also toured Israel, England, most of Europe, South America, and various other places of interest, including many trips to Branson, MO. Her family was first and foremost in her life, she was a constant at the kids sporting events and any other endeavor they chose.
A Christian by faith, Catharine was a member of the Red Fork Baptist Church where she served the Lord with her time and talents, teaching Sunday School, VBS, working in the young ladies ministries , helping with activities, whatever was needed, Catharine was there. She was a genuine people person and always made time to hear your story, offer her assistance, make a casserole or cake when you were sick. There were no strangers in her world, just friends she hadn’t met yet. The Lord called this wonderful woman home from her many labors on November 2nd, 2021 in Broken Arrow, OK, with her loving children by her side. She was 90 years old and will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, her mom and dad, her sister, Mary Evelyn Fuller and A. V., her husband of 68 years. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Cody Carter and wife, Paula, of Broken Arrow, OK, and Mary Allen and husband Gary also of Broken Arrow. She lives on in her four grandchildren, Cydni Bouman and husband Jerry of Parsons, KS, Abby Rosenthal and husband Rich of Arlington, TX, Aaron Allen and wife Kendra of Broken Arrow, OK, and Jason Neff of Tulsa, OK. She also leaves seven great grandchildren, Hunter Barron of Owasso, OK, Tyler Barron of Parsons, KS, Noah Allen of Broken Arrow, OK, Mary Margaret Rosenthal of Arlington, TX, Bryce Allen of Broken Arrow, OK, Becca Allen of Broken Arrow, OK, and Michael Neff of Tulsa, OK. There is one great great granddaughter, Mayble Owens of Owasso, OK, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and church family too numerous to mention.
