Betty Mae Jumper

Funeral services for Betty Mae Gourd-Jumper will be held on Thursday, June 11th, 2020 at Johnson prairie Baptist Church at 2:00 PM with Reverend Jason Gann and Reverend Guy Soldier officiating. Her family will receive visitors on Wednesday, June 10th, 2020 at Reed-Culver Chapel beginning at 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM. She will be laid to rest at Agent Cemetery in Moody, OK. Pallbearers for Betty include Jerry Sewell, Charles Gann, James Gourd, Vernon Sewell, Vincent Bluebird, Rodney Gann, Jack Gourd, and Brandon England. Her honorary pallbearers are all of her beloved nephews.

Betty Mae Gourd-Jumper was born on Thursday, March 3rd, 1955 in Tahlequah, OK, the daughter of Leonard and Louanna (Dry) Gourd. She grew up with her five brothers and four sisters, Lloyd, Louise, Clara, Ross, Annie, Mary, Edward, Roger and Dennis. She attended school until the 10th grade at Oaks. Betty married the love of her life and her best friend, Jerry Dean Jumper on June 4th, 1999 in Miami, OK. Together they would share 15 years of happy memories and some memorable life experiences. She worked as a Teachers Aide at Shady Grove School, a job she dearly loved. She was great with children and she never tired of their antics. When she was at home, she was in the kitchen, cooking up her famous dumplings, beans or dressing, no one made it better than Betty. She was witty and funny, and never failed to come back with the punch line. She was always ready to go to the creek to do a little crawdad hunting or spend the day at the river fishing. Her husband Jerry served as the Pastor at Olive Baptist Church, and Betty was there standing right beside him , helping every step of the way and being his prayer partner. She loved the old gospel tunes, and attended every gospel singing she could find. Jerry passed from this life on June 4th, 2014. Betty continued spending time with her family, and attending gospel singing. She was always happiest surrounded by the family she loved. Her faith in God never waivered, and she looked forward to seeing those she had lost earlier in her life. The Lord called this wonderful sister, wife, and friend home from her labors on Saturday, June 6th, 2020 in Tahlequah, OK, with her loved ones by her side. She was 65 years old. She will be greatly missed.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Looney and Lucinda Gourd, her Mom and Dad, her husband, Jerry, four brothers, Lloyd “Key”, Roger, Dennis and Ross and two sisters, Louise Gourd-Sewell and Clara Gourd-Gann.

Those left to cherish her memory include her brother, Edward Gourd and wife Kimberly of Hulbert, OK, and two sisters, Annie Gourd and companion Ross Wilson of Grove, OK, and Mary Gourd-Sapp and husband John of Colcord, OK, along with many nieces and nephews.
