Barbara June Carroll was born on November 10th, 1934 in St. Louis, OK the daughter of Charles Cleveland and Loretta (Sartors) Shirley. She married Howard Dillon “Dib” Carroll on June 27th, 1952 at her parent’s home. This union was blessed with two children, a son Bob and one daughter, Vicki. Once she married Dillon, she began traveling the world. She lived in Paris, France and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. She blended her Oklahoma roots with her international experiences, and was just as comfortable creating French cuisine as she was cooking down home “Oklahoma” cooking. Barbara was a gifted seamstress and made articles from simple shorts to elegant ball gowns. Many times she created without the use of a pattern. She loved to quilt and made exquisite designs, highly prized by those who received them. She was a long standing member of the “First Tuesday Quilt Guild”, and loved her time spent crafting with her friends. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed getting together with her family and sharing a meal. A Christian by faith, Barbara was called home to her Eternal Rest on April 2nd, 2013 at her home in Tahlequah with her family by her side. She was 78 years old. She will be greatly missed by all those blessed to call her friend.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Dillon in 1995, and one brother, Charles Eugene Shirley.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Bob Carroll and wife Kathy of Norman, OK, and Vicki Stilwell and husband Kenneth of Tahlequah, OK. She leaves three sisters, Joyce Fore and husband Larry of Fox, OK, Catherine Gordon and husband Kenneth of Fox, OK, and Jaquita Moore and husband Larry of Purcell, OK. Her legacy lives on in her grandchildren, Kendil Stilwell and wife, Aimee, Kevin Stilwell and wife Elizabeth, and Kyle Stilwell and wife Ryan, and Nicona Stilwell all of Tahlequah, OK. Matt Carroll, Jenny Hankins, Brett Hankins and wife Shelley all of Norman, OK. Her great grandchildren include Ashlin, Elisha, Abigail, Dillin, Kylee, Kash, and Sawyer Stilwell and Tyler Hankins as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
