To the family of Dr. Damadian. May God bless the life and soul of Dr. Damadian… An icon in the field of medicine and particularly radiology. Directly or indirectly, he saved perhaps millions of lives. He changed the face of radiologic imaging. I have never met him but I’ve often thought of him as my colleagues and I speak of “ the Armenian physician  that invented MRI“… I will never now forget his name… May he rest in everlasting peace.

I worked closely with Dr. Damadian for about 8 years in the mid 1980s to early 1990s...he was a genius who had his own view of the world..he loved his amazing wife Donna and his 3 children who I was close to...my first office at FONAR was in the same room as the INDOMITABLE that is now in the Smithsonian Institute...he was a brilliant very passionate quirky religious man...I learned so much from him and the entire FONAR team...my love and affection go out to Timmy, Jevan and Kiera...he made a huge contribution to medical imaging and saved countless lives...his contributions will echo on forever....I made so many Friends at FONAR...A group of incredibly talented people...thank you Dr.D ❤️ 

I was Dr. Damadian's administrative assistant at Downstate Medical Center for 18 years. I sat next to him in the same office, and right outside of the newly developed MRI machine. He once asked me to be the "guinea pig" and be the first to go into the machine, an honor later given to Dr. Larry Minkoff. I have so many fond memories of his generosity, his very young family at the time, and his determination to continue his quest to manufacture the now renowned live saving MRI machine. He was instrumental in my career and I send my condolences to his family. 

I just learned with great sadness of the passing of Dr. Damadian.  I was fortunate to have met him in the early 80s and to work with him at FONAR for nearly a decade.  Over the past 40 years I have told the story of Dr. Damadian’s genius to hundreds of colleagues, friends and family.  Today more than 50 years after his initial invention MRI has proven to be the most consequential contribution to medicine in the history of mankind.  Thankyou Dr. Damadian for all you have done for all of us.



Most children aspire to be an athlete or a rock star but Raymond Damadian aspired to save lives after losing his grandmother to cancer as a child. As it turns out, he accomplished this feat in more times than one could  ever thought be possible. MILLIONS of lives have been saved and BILLIONS of people saw their quality of their lives improved through his life’s work. How many people that have ever lived on this planet can say that?

Heartfelt thoughts and emotions for Dr. Damadian's family.  I have just learned of his passing.  Truly at a loss.  My gratitude for Dr. Damadian's priceless and remarkable achievements cannot be measured.  My career in medicine is founded on Dr. Damadian's genius and humility.  Please know your family is in our thoughts; I speak on behalf of the entire MRI community, but especially myself.
I frequently speak to my patients during my encounters with them, during imaging.  For those brief moments I am able to express to them how we, human beings, have benefited as a race because of Dr. Damadian's great successes.  We dedicate our wellness and clinical awareness to Dr. Damadian.  You live forever in our hearts and our lives.  Thank you.  God bless you and your family.

Dr. Damadian had a wider influence on people and the world at large than anyone can know.  I remember when I started at FONAR in 1984 he suggested that I not attend formal meetings until I had spent about 4 weeks learning the basic science by researching NMR in the FONAR library!  He was so right!
Ultimately he wanted to create a better world without cancer and suffering.  He is now in his heavenly  home realizing all his hopes and dreams.  

A very great man, who lived a consequential life--and more importantly, a God-pleasing one. May Lord Jesus receive him into His kingdom. Sincere sympathies to his loved ones.

An incredible man with an amazing mind has gone home to be with his Creator and beloved wife. Dr. Damadian exemplified dignity and integrity while being  a powerful testimony for Jesus Christ. It was truly an honor to meet and talk with him.
