PERKINS, GEORGIA
Travis Glenn Rhodes, 83, of Perkins, Georgia, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, November 11, 2017, at home after an extended illness. He was born February 8, 1934, in Jenkins County to the late Steve Ellis and Edith Rebecca Boyd Rhodes.
His early education began at the Old Red Hill School before going on to graduate from Jenkins County High School. He joined the Army to serve his country during the Korean War, while stationed at Fort Meade Army Base in Baltimore, MD. After returning home to Jenkins County he started work at Planters Electric of Millen, GA in 1957 and was a dedicated Serviceman for the company until retirement in 1996.
Travis was a faithful and lifelong member of Ellis Chapel Church. He was a farmer at heart and very happy in the seat of a tractor, plowing both fields of crops and vegetable gardens. Over the years the farm was also home to many cows, pigs, guineas, geese and chickens. His grandchildren fondly remember sharing the seat of a tractor with Papa to give the cows bales of hay. When he wasn't tilling the soil or feeding animals, he could be found in a toolshed with hammer or screwdriver in hand. If it was broken, he could fix it. He lovingly shared his many skills with his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 42 years, Betty Jean Rabitsch Rhodes. and brothers, Paul Rhodes and Marlin Rhodes.
Travis is survived by his three children: Rhonda Rhodes Clower and her husband, Dean of Athens, Georgia, Dennis Travis Rhodes and his wife, Lyn of Perkins, and Dexter Ellis Rhodes of Thomson, Georgia, his Sister, Ethel R.
