Mr. Kelly Howard Morton, 69, of Sylvania, died Sunday afternoon at his residence under the care of Spanish Oaks Hospice.
He was born in Effingham County, Georgia, to the late Mavis Morton Mingledorff. He was a member and deacon of Faith Temple Holiness Church, and was a heavy equipment operator for the Screven County Roads and Bridges Department for a number of years before his retirement.
His survivors include: His wife, Linda Joyce Knighten Morton of Sylvania, 2 Special Nieces, Erin Hart of Kingsland, Georgia and Cathrine Hart of Guyton, Georgia, 2 Special Nephews, David Mabry and Joshua Mabry of Sylvania, 2 Sisters-in-Law, Frances Murray and Gloria Mosley of Pacolet, South Carolina, A Brother-in-Law, Glenn Mabry of Sylvania, 2 Adopted Grandchildren, Angela and Joshua Cox of Sylvania and Several Cousins.
Funeral services for Mr. Morton will be Wednesday, September 5, 2012, at 11:00 A.M. in the Chapel of Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home with the Rev. Bobby Williford officiating. Burial will be in the Screven County Memorial Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be: John Hatcher Sisson, Ed Bragg, Roger Brannen, Ricky Ivey, Joshua Cox and Marion Doyle.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Rev. Elizabeth and Mervin Williford, Junior Duggar, Alex Saxon, Rev. Gerald and Sandra Sutkus and Curtis Brannen.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
