Sylacauga, AL - Stephen Terry Dean, Christian, husband, father, son, brother, pastor, teacher, and friend to all, was born on January 28, 1966 in Sylacauga, Alabama to his parents, Judy and Terry Dean. He went home to be with the Lord on March 6, 2018 in Birmingham, Alabama, surrounded by his loved ones.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Karen Grizzle Dean; daughter, Lauren Jane Dean; mother, Judy Price Dean; brother, Todd (Cecelia) Dean; aunt, Betty Dean; nieces, Olivia Dean and Emma Dean; mother-in-law, Carolyn Grizzle; and brother-in-law Richard Grizzle.
He is preceded in death by his father, Terry Dean; father-in-law, Horace Grizzle; and a host of other relatives.
In Steve’s fifty-two year faith journey, he received a Bachelor’s Degree in music education at the University of Montevallo, and a Master of Arts in Christian Education from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He had the privilege of ministering to the following faith families: Mt. Sharon Baptist church in Childersburg, Alabama; Brown’s Chapel Baptist Church in Sylacauga, Alabama; First Baptist Church Oak Grove in Sylacauga, Alabama; Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Bogue Chitto, Mississippi; First Baptist Church in Roanoke, Alabama; Community LIFE Church in Roanoke, Alabama; and Five Points Baptist Church in Sylacauga, Alabama. Steve loved Jesus, loved people, and encouraged others to do the same.
The Celebration of his life will be held at First Baptist Church Oak Grove in Sylacauga, Alabama; on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be held at Radney-Smith Funeral Home on Friday, March 9, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to A Place of Hope Orphanage in Migori, Kenya. Donations in memory of Steve can be sent to 8100 Sorrel Lane, Montgomery, Alabama, 36117.
