John Moore Jones John Moore Jones went to be in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Tuesday, May 29, 2012. He was born in Jefferson County, AL on October 25, 1930 to Johnny B. Jones Jr. and Irene Moore Jones. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Wilda Slaughter Jones, one daughter Elise Jones Morris and her husband Ray Morris of Houston, TX, one son Larry Jones and his wife Donna Jones of Sylacauga, AL, three grandchildren¬¬-Steven Morris and his wife Chelsea Morris, Brian Morris, and Rylee Jones, and one great grandchild Landon Morris. These all lovingly and affectionately call him Deeda. He is preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Rogers Jones, and is survived by one sister, Frances Jones Davis of Birmingham, AL, and many nieces and nephews. John was a 1949 graduate of A.G. Parrish High School in Selma, AL, Marion Military Institute (MMI) in Marion, AL in 1951, University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa in 1954 and the University of Alabama in Birmingham in 1958. John’s professional career included the U.S. Air Force, where he served as a pilot from 1954-1957, Medical Technologist from 1958-1962, and he was most known and loved for his service to Sylacauga Hospital as Laboratory Director from 1962-1988. He retired professionally in 1990 but remained very active in serving others. John became a member of First Baptist Church in Sylacauga in 1962 and served as a Deacon beginning in 1972. John became a member of the Kiwanis Club of Sylacauga in 1962 where he served as Secretary, Treasurer, President, and Lt. Governor of the Sylacauga Division. His volunteer work included Carpenters for Christ and Red Cross. Beginning in 1998-2006, John and his wife Wilda spent four summers and one full year in China teaching English as volunteers with ELIC (Education Language Institute China) Throughout his life John loved time spent with his family camping, traveling and playing golf, and in later years he enjoyed serving through numerous Christian Ministries. John was a loving and devoted husband and father and “Deeda†was deeply loved by his grandchildren in which he found great pleasure “bragging†of their accomplishments. Visitation and the funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church on Saturday, June 2, 2012. Visitation will be from 9:30am till 10:45am, Memorial Service at 11:00am and Graveside following at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to First Baptist Church of Sylacauga, Knollwood Christian School, P.O.
