Sylacauga, AL - Jerry William Honeycutt, age 80, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2024. Jerry was born on Sept. 6, 1943 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
After Jerry graduated from Sylacauga High School in 1961, he started his first job at Alabama Power Company, kickstarting a 37 year career in power generation. On May 29, 1966, he married his high school sweetheart, Shera Lou Patton.
Jerry also completed over 4 years of National Guard service. He attained the rank of Sargeant E-5 as a tank commander and was decorated with the .45 caliber pistol sharpshooter badge. He was honorably discharged on the 14th of June, 1968. He performed his duties diligently and patriotically.
Jerry was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who was admired by both his 3 children and 8 grandchildren.
Jerry deeply cherished, "Lucy", his wife of 58 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel Redden Honeycutt and Ruth Long Honeycutt.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Shera Lou Honeycutt; his three children, William Christopher Honeycutt (Rebecca), Anne Elizabeth Potts (Alan), and Emily Louise Milam (Brent); his eight grandchildren, Lauren Elizabeth Thomas (Briar), Madeline Anne Cotney (Ethan), Cody Lane Honeycutt, Christopher Houston Honeycutt, Caleb Nathaniel Honeycutt, William Henson Milam, Elouise Claire Milam, and Charlotte Olivia Milam; and his three great-grandchildren, Adeline Grace Cotney, Grey Michael Honeycutt, and Brynleigh Elizabeth Thomas. He is also survived by his beloved family members, Gail Joiner (Earl), Melodie Joiner Dean (Phillip), and David Joiner.
A visitation for Jerry will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Radney-Smith Funeral Home, 320 North Elm Avenue, Sylacauga, Alabama 35150. Following the visitation, a graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM at Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, 1501 Talladega Highway, Sylacauga, AL 35150.
Serving as pallbearers will be Cody Lane Honeycutt, Christopher Houston Honeycutt, Caleb Nathaniel Honeycutt, Briar Cain Thomas, Ethan Wilks Cotney, and David Earl Joiner.
