Fred was born in Langdale, AL on May 23, 1935 to Fred Calhoun Williams Sr. and Margaret Yarbrough Williams. He grew up there in a loving family and community where he formed life long friendships. He was the first of 4 children. His first sister Rosamond and then Jennie Ruth and finally his brother Chris. After School in 1953 he joined the Army and when his term finished in 1956 he joined the Air Force. It was while in the Air Force in Portland, OR that he met Lyddia Abernathy, the love of his life. They married on February 18, 1961 and had their two sons while there in Portland. First Fred Williams III and then Tierce. He remained in the Air Force until 1974 and returned to Alabama where they welcomed their daughter Michelle. He became a cabinet maker and in 1980 opened his own shop- The Gray Barn Cabinet Shop. He built cabinets until 2000 and then turned it over to one of his sons. After this he lived life to the fullest, traveling all over visiting friends and relatives and looking for new adventures. He loved his children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces, and their children as if they were the center of his world-and they were.
Fred is survived by his wife, Lyddyia Williams; his sons Tierce Williams and Fred Williams III; and his daughter Michelle Wydeman; his sisters Rosamond Hobart and Jennie Friese and his brother Chris Williams; his 9 Grandchildren and his 9 Great Grandchildren.
Fred was preceded in death by his father Fred Williams Sr. and his mother Margaret Yarbrough Williams; his niece Cara Hobart.
A visitation for Fred will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Curtis and Son Funeral Home. Following the visitation will be a graveside service at 12:30 PM at Marble Valley Cemetery. Fred will be laid to rest in Marble Valley Cemetery. All services will be officiated by minister Reginald Hawkins.
Serving as pallbearers are Shawn Williams, Riley Williams, Jesse Butler, Jarrett Butler, Jarrett Morris, Stephen Friese, Jody Friese and Cody Butler.
