David Eugene Compton Sr., age 76, passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2021 in Sylacauga, AL. He was born on August 30, 1945 in Shelby County, AL to Johnny Henry and Arie Marie (McDonald) Compton. David married Joy Maxine Abernathy on October 10, 1985 in Kermit, TX and they shared 27 wonderful years together until her passing in 2012.
David grew up in Alabama and later moved to Kermit, where he lived for many years working for a trucking company. He enjoyed milkshakes, gambling, watching golf, and hanging out at Jerrie’s Café. David was a devoted father who had a great sense of humor and loved to joke. He will be dearly missed.
David is survived by his sons: David Compton Jr. and wife Susan of Weogufka, AL; Johnny Eugene Compton of Childsburg, AL; Robert Henry Compton and Danny Compton and wife Wendy, all of Sylacauga, AL; daughter: Linda Turner and husband Randy of Vincent, AL; step-sons: Stephen Salmons and wife Karen of Odessa, TX and Allen Salmons and wife Jennifer of New Braunfels, TX; step-daughters: Shelly Salmons and Melissa Salmons, both of San Antonio, TX; brother: Van Compton of Rockford, AL; sister: Carolyn Wilson of Rockford, AL; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife: Maxine Compton; parents: Johnny and Arie Compton; one sister and three brothers.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, November 5, 2021 at Kermit Cemetery in Kermit, TX officiated by Van Compton. Honorary pallbearers will include: David Compton, Johnny Compton, Robert Compton, Danny Compton, Stephen Salmons, and Allen Salmons.
