It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Theresa Jean (Hines) Barron of Sydney on August 22, 2022. Jean passed peacefully at the Northside Community Guest Home where she resided for the past two years.
Jean was born in Reserve Mines on September 27, 1933 to Wallace and Jean (Lorway) Hines. She spent the whole of her married life in Sydney with her husband, Francis T. Barron originally of Ingonish Harbour. Jean was a loving and devoted wife, daughter and sister as well as an aunt and great aunt to her many nieces and nephews of whom she was so very proud. Jean and Francis loved touring about Cape Breton – especially the highlands and the greater Ingonish area. Jean also considered precious, her many trips away to visit with family in Windsor, Ontario and Tewksbury, Massachusetts. Jean freely shared with us all her ready sense of humour and her strong opinions on matters both great and small. Her work life outside the home took her to Sacred Heart Glebe House in her early years, Saint Rita’s Hospital and the MacGillivray Guest Home from which she eventually retired. Jean was actively involved in the Ladies Auxiliary of St. Anthony Daniel’s Church further demonstrating her devotion to her faith. Besides her parents, Jean is predeceased by her husband Francis, sister Mary (in infancy), her sisters and their husbands Florence (Roderick) Swistun, Dorothy (Robert) Bondy and Anna (Benedict) Dobbin and her sister-in-law Shirley Hines as well as nephews Wally Dobbin, Jason Hines and Joseph Hines. Left to mourn Jean’s passing are her much beloved and devoted brother Ambrose Hines as well as her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
A Funeral Mass will take place at 11:00 am on Friday, August 26, 2022 at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church with Fr. Bill Burke officiating. Inurnment to follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Family flowers only.
