It is with broken hearts, we announce the passing of our sister, Rose Anne "Rosie" MacKinnon, on April 5, 2024, at the MacGillivray Guest Home, surrounded by her family.
Born in Sydney, NS, on March 14, 1967, she was the daughter of the late Malcolm and Effie (MacDonald) MacKinnon of Northside East Bay.
Rosie was born with Down Syndrome and brought so much joy to our family. She led an active life doing the things she enjoyed the most. In early years, she participated in Special Olympics. She made many friends while attending the Horizon Achievement Centre and also during her summer vacations with family. Rosie loved Celtic music and enjoyed dancing. She had a great sense of humor, loved to laugh, make jokes and have fun.
Rosie is survived by her siblings, Cathy (Guy) Harris, Betty MacDonald, Malcolm, June (Doug) Close, Isabel (Alvin) Levangie, Jim (Elise) and Mary (Mike) MacNeil. Also survived by nieces and nephews whom she loved very much; Anne, Colleen, Jeanette, Jamie, Melissa, Anne, Mark, Brennan, Devin, Peter, and Erin Rose.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her nephew Chris Harris and brother-in-law, Kenny MacDonald.
Our heartfelt thanks go to all her caregivers during her stay at Unity House, East Bay and the MacGillivray Guest Home. She was treated with love and compassion, and for this we will be forever grateful.
Visitation will take place Friday, April 12, 2024, at TW Curry Parkview Chapel, 755 George St. Sydney, from 6-9pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 10:00 am at St. Mary's Parish, East Bay, with Fr. Anthony O'Connor officiating. Interment will take place at a later date.
Donations in her memory may be made to Special Olympics Nova Scotia or MacGillivray Guest Home.
