Pat grew up in New Waterford. After losing her Father in a tragic mining accident she was a great support for her mother and a devoted big sister to Elaine and Colleen.
Pat married Michael Drohan of Whitney Pier in 1957. They moved to Grove Street in 1969 where they made their home and raised their family. With four highly active children life was incredibly hectic but she always saw to it that their home was filled with love.
The joy of Pat’s life was her children and grandchildren. She was an immensely proud mother and nanny attending countless hockey games and dance recitals over the years.
Pat was beautiful and always dressed very stylishly. But her unique beauty was revealed when she met people. Offering a warm hand and “the best” hugs, family connections and the interests of others made everyone she met feel special.
As the children grew, she returned to work outside of the home. She worked at Sears for over 20 years and forged great friendships there.
Pat was into fitness. She logged thousands of miles around Sydney running errands, for exercise or just seeking peace and quiet. A voracious reader, she could engage in conversation on any topic from local politics to the fusion energy.
Pat was a devoted member of the St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Parish, a member of the CWL and choir member. The choir became a large part of her life where she practiced her faith and forged many great friendships that she cherished.
Fiercely independent Pat was so happy and proud to continue to live in the family home. She was grateful for the help and support of her neighbors and family that helped make that happen.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thank you to her community for their support, with special thanks to her friend Leona and cousin Marina. Pat was predeceased by her long-time neighbour and best friend of over 50 years Connie Fudge. They were inseparable with never a harsh word spoken.
Special thanks to Dr. Carol Critchley, Mom’s doctor who grew to become a friend and advisor. The family would also like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital for their care and kindness.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
