On January 21st, we said goodbye to our Mom, Grandmother and Great Grandmother. We got to enjoy Mom in our lives for many years as she turned 90 last July.
Mary Charlotte Malcolm, age 90, of Sydney, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2019 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Antigonish, she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Mary Jane MacGillivray.
Mom was our rock, our confidant and most of all our friend. Mary was a longtime resident of the Shipyard and enjoyed her chats with the ladies and lifelong friends made at Claddagh House. Mary was the honorary Mom of the neighbourhood, whose open door policy made everyone feel welcomed and loved. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Branch 12 legion, the KOC and a longtime member of the CWL.
Mary is survived by her daughter Laurentia (Scott), sons Lawrence (Nancy), Robert, Gerard (Beth); daughter-in-law Marilyn; sisters Mary Margaret (Phil), Florence, Elizabeth, Marie, Vincy (George); brother Buddy (Laura); grandchildren Tim (Katelyn), Alisha (Jordan), Stephanie (Kevin), Reilly, Sophia, Kevin, Emma, Maggie, Jennifer (Chris), Heather (Kyle) and great grandchildren Quinn and Teegan.
She was predeceased by her husband George, son Donald, sisters Rosemary, Catherine and Sr. Christine; brothers-in-law Billy and Frank.
Visitation will take place on Friday, January 25 from 2-4 &7 -9 pm at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, January 26 at 11 am at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church with Fr. Bill Burke officiating. A reception in the church foyer will follow. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
