Mary Elizabeth Knockwood

It is with great sadness that we the family of Mary Elizabeth Knockwood, announce her passing on Aug 30, 2023 surrounded by the love of her family. Born Feb 7 1932, she was the last surviving daughter of the late Noel and Jane Paul.

Elizabeth’s faith was very important to her and she would make the yearly trip to St. Anne de Beaupre from 1985 up to about 10 years ago. She loved to go for long walks through Eskasoni before taking sick, and would also spend time playing bingo and doing crossword puzzles. Elizabeth will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all those who knew her.

Elizabeth is survived by children; Irene Knockwood, Jackie (late Veron) Knockwood-Stevens, Theresa Knockwood, Norma Knockwood, Georgina (John) Knockwood, Ivan Knockwood, Sam Knockwood, Jada Knockwood, Mary Jane (Walter) Stevens, Joe Paul (Yvonne), Roddie Marble and Dianna Pippin (Frank) and niece Darlene Marshall. Elizabeth also leaves behind her godchildren Rita Marie Isaac, Mike Paul and Joanne Lewis, her best friends; Marie Francis, Virginia Googoo, Natalie Denny, and Sharon Denny and brother in law Roddy Knockwood (Theresa). Elizabeth leaves behind a large extended family including 48 grandchildren, 71 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren as well as many other nieces, nephews and step-siblings.

Elizabeth is predeceased by her husband Isaac F. Knockwood, parents Noel and Jane Paul, her step-mother Margaret Paul, her children; Margaret (late Gene) Cooper, Jean Paul (late Lesley) and Isaac Joe Knockwood, her sisters Mary Julie Marshall and Mary Esther Chase, nephews Kenny, Danny and Clarence, grandchildren Ikey Denny, Steven Knockwood, Cheryl Knockwood, Darren Knockwood and David Paul as well as great grandchildren Angel and Judith.

Visitation for Elizabeth will begin on Tuesday, Sept 5th after 7pm in her home at 13 Burdock Lane in Eskasoni. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Sept 7th at 10:30am at Holy Family Church in Eskasoni, Fr. Antolin Asor and Deacon Tom Sylliboy to officiate. Cremation and salite will follow the Mass.
