Julie was born a twin, twenty-five minutes after her 'older sister', Janet. In their adult years, Janet lovingly referred to her 'baby' sister Julie as the 'good twin'. Julie was a good person; she touched many lives with her kindness and generosity. Julie was there for family and friends who knew that they could count on her to bring their good times up a level and to ease their sorrow in hard times.
Julie's listening and culinary skills were a source of great comfort to many. Spending time with family and friends meant the world to Julie. She was always quick to make gatherings extra special with her delicious home-cooked foods and delectable sweets. A family birthday meant the traditional walnut cake with boiled icing and holidays saw a table laden with homemade family favorite foods.
As a long-time member of Holy Redeemer Parish, Julie served as a Lector at masses, and was a long-standing member and served as President of the Catholic Women's League (CWL), having received accolades for putting together one of the most successful CWL conventions held in Sydney. Music was another of her gifts to many. Julie was a decades-long member and co-director of the Holy Redeemer Senior Folk Choir; proudly promoting the CD that the choir made in 1977. The choir also entertained at New Dawn and community guest homes throughout the years.
Julie, after a long career as a bank teller, accepted a position at a local funeral chapel. During this latter career, Julie provided exceptional service as the office manager with staff and clients thankful for her caring manner and attention to detail. Julie was mainly a self-taught guitarist with the voice of an angel and her music went beyond the church setting. For those who requested, she felt it was an honour to play her guitar and sing hymns during funeral services.
Julie enjoyed travelling, whether it was a jaunt across Nova Scotia, or trips to other provinces and abroad. A weekend with family on Nova Scotia's mainland, a shopping spree south of the border, and adventures in England and Italy all built lasting memories. It was with love that her family and friends supported Julie as she took her final journey to Heaven where God welcomed her with open arms.
Julie was predeceased by her parents John and Josie (Swatko) Mayich; maternal grandparents, Harry and Helen (Behune) Swatko; paternal grandparents Kris and Julia (Grbavac) Mayich, and many other family members. Left to keep her love in our hearts forever, Julie is survived and will be deeply missed by her much loved only child, Graham (Crystal) Alexander, Westmount NS; siblings Sharon (Ray) Baker, Middle Sackville NS, John (Paula) Mayich, Middle Sackville NS, Janet (Carl) Chesal, Stittsville ON, Tom (Nedene) Mayich, Sydney NS, David (Kathleen) Mayich, Loch Lomond NS, Greg (Karla) Mayich, Sydney NS, her many nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
