Joanne Elizabeth MacDonald

Joanne was the daughter of Mrs. Madeline and the late Vincent (V.J.) MacDonald.

Born on April 22, 1968, she grew up in Sydney and was a member of Saint Anthony Daniel Parish. Joanne attended Holy Angels High School where she made many lifetime memories. After graduating from high school, Joanne attended UCCB and later Mount Saint Vincent University where she attained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Early Childhood Development. She most recently worked at Meadows Pharmasave in Sydney Forks and in a prior position as Religious Education Coordinator at Lady Fatima Parish in Sydney River.

Joanne is survived by her mother, Madeline; son, Vincent; brothers, Vincent, Francis (Cathy) and Blair (Lana); sister, Maria (Spencer) Wadden and nieces, Michelle MacDonald and Sarah Wadden. She was a very special daughter, sister, mother, niece, sister-in-law, aunt and friend who always showed tremendous love and caring for all of her family members and friends.

She touched the hearts of everyone she met. Her radiant smile and warm embrace conveyed the kind of person she was inside and out. She was a child of the earth being born on 'Earth Day' and she truly loved the nature of God's creation. She was often seen with her umbrella, Bar-B-Q and book at one of the many beautiful beaches of Cape Breton.

She was always eager to help those in need and was committed in spreading her love and support whenever needed. She will be missed dearly and in her son's words 'There's not a day that will go by that we will not miss you. You taught us so much more than anyone can say and 'Thank-you' will never be enough to express our love and gratitude. We know that you will never leave us. Love you always and forever.'

Visitation will take place from 6-9 p.m. on, Tuesday Aug. 16 at TW Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Our Lady of Fatima church Rev. Patrick O'Neil officiating. Donations in Joanne's memory may be made to the Every Women's Center or Transition House.
