55 – Sydney
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Gary Hanrahan on Monday, April 19, 2010 at home.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Gerald and Angela (O’Neill) Hanrahan.
Gary was a graduate of Sydney Academy and Dalhousie University. He was a dedicated teacher at Wagmatcooke School for the past 24 years. Gary loved to travel with his family, especially to see the Boston Red Sox play. He was also a loyal Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Gary very much enjoyed the years of coaching his three boys in baseball and going to watch their hockey games. He was a best friend to his family and all who knew him. If someone had a problem, he had the solution.
Gary was a member of Our Lady of Fatima parish.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Cathy (Devoe); his three sons, Michael, Toronto; Ryan and Shawn at home; sisters Geraldine (Frank Hawley) Hanrahan; Linda (Lorne) MacKinnon and Judy Hanrahan, all of Sydney; brothers Shaun, Calgary; Kevin, Sydney; Barry, Manitoba and Eddy (Mary Ann), Halifax. Also by his nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
He was predeceased by a brother Robert in infancy.
