It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Fredrick Alexander Currie of Sydney on Thursday, March 14, 2013 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born at Sydney, he was the son of the late John and Jean (Mann) Currie.
He was a member of Saint Anthony Daniel parish. He was a graduate of Saint Francis Xavier University, class of 1960. His career spanned over 25 years with Family Services of Eastern Nova Scotia where he worked as their Financial Manager. Prior to that, Fred was very active in the family grocery store business on Alexandra Street. Fred will be missed by his gang of regulars at both the Tarabish table, and the Bean Bank.
Surviving are Marlene and Douglas of Halifax, and John (Karen Palmer) both of Vancouver. Also surviving are his grandsons Sheamus, Riley, Stash, Lucas and Palmer, of whom he was so proud.
He is survived by several cousins, as well as many of his late wife’s family, who in many instances were the same as brothers and sisters to him. Fred also leaves behind several close in-laws.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, the former Florie Tynski, in 2007, as well as several in-laws.
Visitation for the late Mr. Currie will take place from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM on Sunday at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel second level. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 2:30 PM at Saint Anthony Daniel Church, Rev. Donald MacGillivary officiating. Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
