It is with deep sadness, that we the family announce the passing of our mother, Eleanor Marie (Stephenson) MacQueen, which occurred at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on Friday, February 26, 2010, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Sydney Mines, she was the eldest child of the late Edward Allen and Dorothy May (Gillis) Stephenson. Before her retirement, she was employed with Eaton’s and Sears Canada. She was a member of Saint Andrew’s United Church, a member of Club 55, Club 55 Rhythm Band, Sydney Steelworker’s Pensioners Club, The Vonnie McEachern Senior Singers, Cape Breton Gospel Choir, past member DesBarres Chapter I.O.D.E., Royal Cape Breton Yacht Club, Multiple Sclerosis Society (Cape Breton Chapter) and Clan Donald. She was an avid card, dart and shuffleboard player.
Eleanor is survived by her daughter Edna (Ernie) Redquest, Sydney; her sons Edward (Carmella), Sydney; Dana (Theresa), Bedford; grandchildren Cheryl Lyn, Jennifer, Chad, Melissa, Michael, Allen and Katie; step-grandchildren, Michelle and Ernie; five sisters, Marion MacKeigan, Big Ridge; Jean Campbell, Glace Bay; Sheila (Ross) MacLeod, Sydney; Barbara Ann Meara, Hull, Mass. and Donna Lee (Michael) Hasiuk, Westville; three brothers, Robert ‘Bo’ (Joan), Sydney River; Jackie, Sydney; Gillis (Judy), Leominster, Mass. and several nieces and nephews. She will also be greatly missed by special friends Betty Andrews and Honey Mann.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, D. George (1998), daughter Elaine (1985), brother Roland Foster and sister Sandra.
Visitation for Mrs. MacQueen will take place on Sunday, February 28, 2010 from 7-9 p.m. and Monday, 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral services to be held at 11 am Tuesday at St. Andrew’s United Church, Sydney with Rev. Stephen Mills officiating with interment in Dutch Brook Cemetery.
