We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our Mom on Monday June 12, surrounded by those who loved her; as a result of a stroke. Known to many as Nanny Dolores, Mom was always the caregiver to her extended family, friends, and neighbours. Her mission was to do things with and for her family, opening her heart and home, many will miss her thoughtful and kind spirit.
Both Mom and Dad were very caring people who took great pleasure in helping others. True to the Cape Breton tradition that food heals all, we delivered many biscuits & jam, carrot & rum cakes (often fetching a hefty donation at many auctions), date squares and chocolate cake with boiled icing. If you were lucky enough to have been the benefit of any of those treats, you can attest to Mom’s skills in the kitchen.
Dolores was the daughter of the late John and Annie May Burns. She was predeceased by her husband of 43 years Tony, her brother Pat Burns and her sister Joanne Trainer, her brother-in-law Beaton MacCormack, and in-laws Steve and Veronica MacCormack. She is survived by her daughters Lynne (Kurt) McCarron, Carrie (David) Ramsay and Amber (Donnie) Whalen, and son Craig MacCormack, her brother Don Burns, as well as her sister-in-law Sharon MacCormack and cousin Floyd Musgrave.
Mom’s proudest role was that of Nanny to her 9 grandchildren, Dillon, Brody (Holly), Andrew (Gabby) & Coby McCarron, Abigail (Kyle), Tesa, Madison and David Ryon Ramsay, Brianna (Jeremy) MacCormack and very special great-grandson Sebastian Blom. However, if you asked her, she believed there were many others who would fall into this category. She was a proud aunt to Mark & Michelle Trainer and Kim, Kelli, Glen, Trevor & Rod MacCormack. Mom was also very fortunate to have many life-long friends we consider family.
Visitation to celebrate the life of Dolores MacCormack will be held at TW Curry Funeral Home on Thursday, June 15/23 from 6-9. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, June 16/23 at St. Marguerite Bourgeois at 3:00 pm. For those unable to attend, the Funeral Mass will be livestreamed via TW Curry's facebook page.
In lieu of flowers please make a donation to United Way Cape Breton or Crohn’s & Colitis Canada, two charities Mom was very passionate about. To share memories and condolences please visit www.twcurry.com.
