My life came to an end at peace with myself, all people and God as I understand him on Nov 30, 2023. My accomplishments and failures are unimportant to those people that showed me kindness and helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses. To acknowledge my mistakes and the ability to see the best in what is around me and help set the course for my life. I never forgot their kindness.
Most important my wife Noreen she was my key to happiness and a commitment to try each day, to be better than yesterday. She never let failures alter her love and kindness to stand by me with persistence and determination. At the lowest times of my life. Inside the heart of each and every one of us there is a longing to be loved and understood by someone who really cares. I found that someone.
Dannie’s working life started at a young age at the international Coal Pier’s in Whitney Pier and Louisbourg. He also worked in number-18, Colliery in New Victoria and served six years in the Canadian Army that he was very proud of, along with the friendships he made for life.
Dannie was an accomplished boxer in the army. Dannie lived in Toronto after the army and sailed on the lake boats, worked at Plant 54 Continental, worked construction and eventually returned to Cape Breton. He was a member of the Iron Workers Local 752 for 50 years and helped start the Cape Breton Building Trades Council. He became its fulltime rep and vice president for many years.
He was a member of the Nova Scotia Labour Relations Board (Construction Panel) for 41 years and became a member of the New Labour Board as well as serving on numerous committees in various capacities over the years. Dannie was a member of Legion Branch 138 in Whitney Pier.
Dannie will be missed by his wife of 63 years Noreen, son Dannie, South Bar, daughter Kelly, Vancouver, grandson Brandon, Vancouver, Sisters Carrie and Tena as well as Brother Francis.
He was predeceased by his daughter Debbie, son Dannie Jr., Granddaughter Michelle, Brothers John Alford, Raymond, Ronnie and Jimmy as well as many nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place, and there will be no visitation. A Funeral Service will be held on Fri, Dec 8th at 1pm at TW Curry Parkview Chapel with Fr. Paul Murphy officiating.
