With great sadness we announce the passing of Barry Kennedy, 71, at the Glace Bay Regional Hospital, with his loving family by his side. On March 23, 2022, the world lost an incredible man. Barry was born in Sydney and raised in Louisbourg, where he met the love of his life and soulmate, Debbie (Gallant) Kennedy. Over the next 57 years, they built their life together raising three wonderful children, whom he loved dearly and who were his greatest pride, and welcomed his six grandchildren, the joys of his life. A generous man, in both his career and personal life, it gave Barry great joy to be able to help family and friends.
Many would know Barry from being in the construction industry, on the golf course, hockey rink or tennis courts. He was vice president and shareholder of Lynk Electric, retiring in 2011. He stayed busy after retirement, doing electrical inspections and serving 10 years on the board of the JA Douglas McCurdy Sydney Airport. An avid sports enthusiast, he was well known at a young age for his hockey skills, playing alongside his brother Bubbins with the Louisbourg crew. He loved playing competitive tennis with friends and family and was a proud member of Seaview Golf and Country Club, where he enjoyed many goodhearted, competitive rounds with his golf buddies, especially Art Kennedy and Angelo Susin.
Barry is survived by his loving wife, Deborah (Gallant) Kennedy, children, Shannon (Daniel) Neal, Shaun (Jenna) Kennedy and Stephanie (Derek) Mombourquette, and his six grandchildren, Caitlin, Brayden, Carter, Leah, Emilie and Allie. He is also survived by his brothers Bernard (Judy) Kennedy, Robert (Peggy) Kennedy, Donnie Kennedy, sisters, Anne (Arthur) Hutt, and Rose (David) Wadden, along with many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Mary (Connington) Kennedy, parents-in-law Ted and Marjorie (MacDonald) Fiander, nephews Robbie and Terrance Kennedy as well as his good friend Glen Crowdis.
A special thank you to his friend Ian MacNeil from Home Instead, and the amazing doctors and staff, especially Dr. Jeanne Ferguson, who supported Barry along his journey. His final weeks were spent at the long term care unit in Glace Bay, where he received the best care from such loving and compassionate nurses.
