It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our loving mother, grandmother aunt and friend, Annie Jane Alex, 73, of Eskasoni on Jan. 4, 2016 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her family and friends.

Born in St. Peter’s, she was the daughter of the late Noel A. and Helen (Googoo) Francis.Annie Jane dedicated her life caring for others. Her life-long work was to care for the young and old. Her great job in life was caring for her Libbie, Abby and Maria. Her favourite hobby was playing PEI bingo with friends and family.

She is survived by her husband Camillus Alex Sr.; sons, Douglas (Jackie), George, Rodney (Joanne), Camillus Jr.; brothers, Edmund and Charles Francis; daughters by choice, Connie, Darlene, Shannon, Madeline and Pam; grandchildren Justin, Courtney, Kyle, Libbie, Abby, Maria, Helen and Lee-Ann; brother-in-law Howard Poulette; her uncle Fred Battiste Sr. and numerous nieces and nephews who loved her very much. Also surviving are godchildren, Andrew Francis and Nancy Mae Poulette; special friends, Cathy, Lillian, Janie, Isabel, Ricky and Paul Kenneth Francis.

Annie was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Theresa Denny, Elizabeth Poulette, Genevieve Bernard, Shirley Francis, brother Frankie Francis, her beloved son John Alex and infant grandchild Nichole Bernard.

Visitation for the late Mrs. Alex will take place at the family residence at 167 Beech Rd., Eskasoni after 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 9. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Church with Rev. Martin MacDougall officiating. Interment in the parish cemetery.
