It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother Anne Marie Gillis (MacDonald) on Sunday, May 7th, at Celtic Court retirement home in Sydney. Born January 4, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Duncan and Mary Anne MacDonald.
Anne was a beautiful person who deeply loved her family. She was a loving mother to Blair and Florence as well as a loving and devoted wife to her husband John. She was a longtime employee of the Royal Bank of Canada, retiring in 2005 and was also a long standing member of the ladies aid in St. Margaret’s Church. Although she grew up in Sydney, her heart and home was in Grand Mira South.
Anne is survived by her children; Blair (Gerilyn) and Florence, grandchildren; Megan, John and Andrew Gillis, her sisters; Bernadette Gauthier (Lucien), Helen Nelson (Chuck), Margie Mullins, Elaine Fischer (Dave), and Mary Claire Langer (Peter) and brothers; John T. and Hugh (Charlene). Anne also leaves behind her sister in law Agnes MacCormick, Elizabeth MacPhee (Dan) and Larkyn Gillis as well as brother in law Francis (Martina) Gillis.
Aside from her parents, Anne is predeceased by her loving husband John, sisters; Stella and Joan, and brothers Colin, Joe, Cyril and Gordie. Anne is also predeceased by many extended family members.
We would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Celtic Court who took such good care of our mother. She was treated with compassion and respect. Also thank you to Dr. Steven MacDougall who cared for mom as her family physician for many years.
Anne is now reunited with her soulmate and husband of 40 years, John.
No visitation will take place. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret’s Church in Grand Mira South on Thursday, May 11th at 11am, with Fr. Paul MacGillivray officiating. Interment will take place in the parish cemetery. To share memories and condolences please visit www.twcurry.com.
