Born in Sydney, he was the son of Mary (MacInnis) Young of Sydney and the late Weldon J. Young.
He was a member of Sacred Heart parish, Sydney. He graduated from Dalhousie University with a four-year program earning him a certificate in local government administration. Allan worked at CBRM for 28 years as senior water treatment operator, taking great pride in his accomplishments in his field of work. He was actively involved with the CUPE Local 759 Union as executive secretary. He was awarded a certificate for Senior Plant Operator of the Year in 2006 by both city council and the Atlantic Canada Waterworks Association.
In his earlier years (1989-92) Allan was manager of Tradesmen Major Midget League, and UCCB Hockey from 1993-1995, where he was lettered in hockey during the 1994-95 Season. His players always looked to him as a father figure. Allan was a devoted loyal fan of Detroit Red Wings and the New York Yankees, and also a member of the Knights of Columbus 1060 Council.
He is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, DeeDee; and his pride and joy, his son Lee Crawley. Also left to grieve are his siblings, Hilary McKinnon, Brian (Norma), Judi (Brian) MacLeod, Tom (Debbie), Dan (Dale) and Greg (Brenda). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, who loved him very dearly.
Visitation for the late Mr. Young will be today (Monday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Rev. Dan MacInnis officiating, with interment in Resurrection Cemetery Sydney Forks.
