After 75 years of hard work, laughter, friends and family, Alexander F. MacDonald left us on Monday February 27th. Born to John and Marion (Barrington) MacDonald. Alex spent his earliest years in Baddeck in the care of his grandmother, Mary Barrington. The memories of his time with Nanny in Baddeck were among the things he cherished most. After returning from Baddeck and growing up in Ashby, in 1969, Alex married his wife of 53 years, Judy (Thomey) and they began their journey together. Living and working in New Glasgow, St. Peter's and Sydney, Alex finally settled in Ross Ferry to live out his retirement years in the country with Judy and of course, his Kubota tractor. In his earlier days, the owner of his own company, Alex sold water conditioning equipment all over Cape Breton. After deciding one cold January day that he could forge forward no longer, Alex began his final sales career with MacDonald Auto Group, becoming a fixture at MacDonald Nissan until his retirement. Alex is survived by his wife, Judy, daughter Amber (Brent Johnston), Balls Creek and Poppy's angel, Gillian Raine. Alex was fortunate to have a great bond with his brother Wayne MacDonald (Lesley), Granville Centre, and his cousin, Ralph Gillis (Jane) Boston, with whom he shared so many laughs and memories. Nephews John, Chad, Ian, Ronnie and their families were always close to his mind and heart. He also leaves his closest friends, Ron and Kathy Wadden, Brian and Sharon Sampson, their daughter Tania and her family, Frank and Twila MacLean, Troy Sampson and best friend since childhood Julian (Buddy) Massiah. You all kept him laughing, telling stories and enjoying the most important things in life, friends and family.
Alex was predeceased by Nanny Barrington, parents John 'Buck' & Marion MacDonald, brother John R. MacDonald, sister-in-law Lorraine (Surette) MacDonald and his son Robert Alexander MacDonald.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 4th at 11:30am at St. Joachim Church, Southside Boularderie. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family by visiting www.twcurry.com. For those unable to attend, the service will be posted to TW Curry's Facebook Page.
Donations in Alex's memory may be made to the Elder Dog Canada in the name of his little man, Bear, whom he cherished. Say a prayer and as he would always say, "Remember, keep your stick on the ice."
