Sydney
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Alexander ‘Sandy’ Eugene Ley at the age of 92. Sandy had been a resident of Harbourstone Guest Home for the past eight years. He was the son of the late Moses Leo and Catherine (Petrie) Ley. Sandy volunteered with the RCAF and served as an Aerial Gunner on Halifax Bombers. He flew with 76 Squadron RAF, Bomber Command during WW2. Sandy was predeceased by his wife Mary Florence.
Sandy was a true gentleman, loved by everyone he met, a rare person these days whom nobody could speak ill of. He epitomized what has been called "The Greatest Generation." He was an inspiration to all and his influence was felt by his step children and their children. His fondest memories were the times he and Florence spent at their summer place in Aberdeen and watching his Maple Leafs. He also took great pride in the accomplishments of his grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He is survived by a sister Anna Sullivan, Sarnia ON; a brother Arthur, Fredericton NB; step daughter Jean (Robert) Wilson, Edmonton AB; step sons Iain (Karrie) Matheson, Middle Sackville NS, and Ranald Matheson, Yellowknife NT; and grandchildren Stephanie, Charles and Fiona Wilson; Geoffrey Matheson; Caleigh and Breeya Matheson.
Visitation for Sandy will be held on Monday, January 23, 2017 from 7-9 pm at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 11am at Our Lady of Fatima Church with Fr. Bill Burke officiating. Interment in Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
