BARRON, Teresa Priscilla It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Teresa on July 25, 2019 at the Harbourstone Enhanced Care in Sydney, NS. Struggling with dementia has made it a long goodbye. Teresa was born Sept. 16, 1936 in Ingonish, NS. The daughter of the late Alex Barron and Doris Williams. She is predeceased by her sisters, Mary (Smery) Fitzgerald and Mildred (Ervie) Fitzgerald as well as her faithful four legged companion Tammy. Following the death of her mother, she was raised from infancy by her paternal grandparents Michael and Priscilla (Donovan) Barron, along with aunt, Rade; uncle, Bud, Bill Hawley and Ken Robinson. Teresa is survived by daughter, Vivian (Ted) Smook, Manitoba; step-mother, Ella along with a number of step brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews. Thirty four years of her working career were spent at the MacGillivary Guest Home in Sydney as head cook, retiring in December of 2001. She devoted her life to caring for others. At work, she spread joy to staff and residents with a lively and colourful sense of humour. Following retirement, she continued to care for her community by baking from her home with the proceeds going directly to the Canadian Cancer Society. She was a faithful blood donor, giving 150 donations to the Canadian Red Cross. Her love for children was demonstrated through her support of the International Foster Parents Plan. Teresa retained strong bonds with her Northern Cape Breton roots. If not at work, she could be found visiting and celebrating with her Barron, Dixon, Robinson and Fitzgerald extended families. She will be deeply missed by them. Special thanks to Mary and Cyril LeBlanc, Marg and Albert Hines, Patsy and David Barretto, Diane and Ken Robinson and the Harbourstone staff. Thank you all for caring and helping her over the past few years as her dementia progressed. Family will receive guests on Wednesday, July 31st from 10 until 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Ingonish with a Funeral Mass commencing at 11 a.m. with Fr. I. Alphonsus Iwuji officiating. Inurnment to follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
