We the family of Sarah Matthews announce her peaceful passing at the Northside Community Guest Home on Friday February 13, 2015.

Born on December 9,1918, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Bessie (Pardy) Hayward.

She was a member of Carmen United Church and a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 8 and the Sydney Mines Pensioners Club. In her younger years she loved to bowl and play darts.

Sarah is survived by her 2 daughters and 2 sons, Melvena (Jack) Mann, Ron J. Matthews (Bev), Carolyn and Tom Matthews (Betty). Her 7 grandchildren John (Tammy), Debbie, Ronnie E. (Leanne), Bradley, Robert, Trevor and Todd as well as 5 great-grandchildren Terrilynn, John, Jared, Gavin and Lauren.

Besides her parents, Sarah was predeceased by her husband Hugh, daughter June and son Robert as well as sisters Beatrice, Greta and Betty.

The family extends their deepest thanks to the staff at the Northside Community Guest Home for their care and compassion over the last number of years.

Visitation for Sarah will be held at Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home, 10 Clyde Ave., Sydney Mines, on Friday February 20, 2015 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral service will take place at Carmen United Church on Saturday February 21, 2015 at 10am.

Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Bible Society, Carmen United Church or a charity of choice.
