It is with sadness in our hearts that we announce the passing on August 17, 2023 in Neils Harbour, of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother Edith Budge. Born to the late William and Esther (Ramsay) Petrie on Feb. 27, 1929. Edith was a longstanding member of the community in and around Neil's Harbour. She married the love of her life Fred Budge in 1947 and together they spent several years manning the St. Paul Island and Port Bickerton Lighthouses. Edith was well known for her hospitality as well as her baking. She always had something special along with a cup of tea for anyone who dropped by. She worked as the pastry chef at the Keltic Lodge for 9 years. Edith was also an avid knitter and there were many who enjoyed receiving her handiwork. Edith's most significant role was that of wife, mother and grandmother. Roles she enjoyed and excelled at.
Besides her parents she is predeceased by her husband Fred, son-in-law Verne Whynott and her uncle George, who lived with Edith & Fred for many years.
Edith is survived and will be missed by her children William "Billy" (Audrey), Ina Whynott and Frederick (Karen), grandchildren Suzanne (Damian), David (Angela), Anthony (Amy), Veronica (Chris), Dillan and Karalee, great grandchildren Kalley, Jaydon, Ashton and Skyler.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 23 at 2pm at St. Andrew's Anglican Church in Neil's Harbour. Interment to follow in St. Peter's Presbyterian Cemetery. The family will receive guests at the church from 1pm until 2pm on Wednesday. Memories and condolences can be shared with the family by visiting www.fillmoreandwhitman.com.
