James F. “Jay” Hoyle, age 74, of Swansea, passed away on Friday, November 5, 2021 at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence. He was the husband of Dale (Gardiner) Hoyle to whom he had been married close to 52 years.
Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late James H. Hoyle and Barbara (LaBossiere) Hoyle.
Jay worked as a History and Religion Teacher for St. John the Evangelist School in Attleboro for 50 years until his retirement.
A true family man, he was a baseball and softball coach to his children, he enjoyed gardening, yard work and day trips with his wife Dale. Jay especially enjoyed time spent with his beloved grandchildren. A gifted carpenter and former Eagle Scout, he was known to build a deck or two as well as a luxurious treehouse for his grandchildren to enjoy. An avid New England sports fan, he particularly loved watching the Red Sox and Patriots. Jay was a published author, having wrote the book ‘Mark’ a story about his late son who battled AIDS. He founded the ‘Mark Gardiner Hoyle Trust Fund’ in his honor, a foundation that gives scholarships to Joseph Case High School seniors.
Besides his devoted wife, Jay is survived by two children, Scott Hoyle and his wife Katherine and Kathy Hajder and her husband Garrett, all of Swansea; four grandchildren, Camden, Kaylin, Madelyn and Ryan; three siblings, Jayne Wilson, Jeff Hoyle and Jon Hoyle as well as several nieces and nephews. Jay was the father of the late Mark Hoyle and brother of the late Sharon Hoyle.
His Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at 10:00 AM in Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd, Swansea. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5:00-7:00 PM. Burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Swansea.
