It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Arthur Henn on March 5th, 2019. Rick in his 75th year, after a valiant battle, passed at Surrey Memorial Hospital with his son and daughter by his side. Rick is predeceased by his parents Dave and Alice Henn, his brother Arone (Katherine) all of whom opened their arms to walk with him through his next journey.
Rick is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Shirley (nee Cormier), his children Dion (Mary) and Charline (Darren Morris), and the love of his life, his grandson Dylan (Buckwheat). His brother Dave (Elanor) and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family.
Rick was proudest of his family but also of his service to his country in the Navy, he served on the Cayuga, and his boxing years. Rick was a long-time resident of Surrey, British Columbia and grew up in Deep Cove in North Vancouver. He never strayed far from sight of the mountains and spent his happiest times with friends at the Vancouver Racetrack, where he was known as the Carrot Man, and with family and friends at the Cabin at Loon Lake, BC.
In true Rick fashion we will be holding a celebration of life in early June to allow for family and friends to come together in the warmth of sunshine and in the spirit of fun. We will announce details as we finalize everything in the late spring. After Rick’s celebration of life, he will be laid to rest with his Mom, Dad, Bob Gaucher, and Jack Phillips in God’s Country, also known as the Cabin at Loon Lake. We will forever hear, “Good morning, Captain, good morning to you” echoing across the lake.
In lieu of flowers or sympathies, please donate to a charity of your choice, Rick was a very generous man and would have wanted it that way.
Dad, you were a great husband and father, an amazing Pop, loved your family with all you had, a true friend to many, and had never met stranger that he wouldn't take the time for or talk with. The world just isn’t as happy as it was with you in it…We love you!
