On the 8th of August family and friends said goodbye to Ray. The speeches presented conveyed Ray's humor, heart and strength. He would be very proud of his family from the grace shown by his children to the closeness of his siblings,(and everyone in between).

ray brightened the lives of many people.and my son was one of those lucky enough to play ball for him.we are saddened by this loss,but we want his family to know that Ray passes a bit of his wonderful spirit to those who come to know him.

I heard about Ray's celebration of life earlier today and I am sorry I couldn't attend - there would have been many good friends there and many stories to share - our sincerest condolences go out to his family and friends. Ray was a proud and fierce competitor who would do anything to come out on top and our teams had many great battles but no matter if there was a win or a loss each one ended with a hearty handshake and a trip to the beer garden where I would be told "I wasn't that good". I am seldom at a loss for words but when it comes to Ray one word keeps coming back to me - respect - he loved good play, even by competitors, and he would always make a point of it. The last time I saw Ray he gave me a great big hug and I'll always cherish that - I'll never forget Ray and am proud we were friends. Rest in peace buddy - love, Al Godin & family

I was very sad to hear of Ray's passing.  He was kind and generous and always made me laugh.  My condolences to his family. RIP Ray, thanks for always being a gentleman and looking out for me when I was on my own at Lindal. <3

I am not in town next weekend so I would like to say a few words about Ray. To my Friend Raymond, The first time many years ago I called Ray, Raymond, he looked at me sternly, with his ball hat tilted up on his head, and said the only one that is allowed to call me Raymond is my Mother. So from there on he was Raymond to me. I was always proud that he allowed me to call him Raymond thru are long friendship. The things I will miss most about Ray is his ability to tell more baseball stories then a person should ever know. Regaling me with tales of his youth and present. Hanging out with the Sheriff in Easley South Carolina. Of all people for Ray to be with. They would wait every year for the team to return to the Big League World Series looking forward to there Buddy to come on down and tell them some more stories. I will miss Ray talking about the epic battles in our Major division between Ken and Ray's team and our Cardinals. He would bring this topic up every time we would meet. Those Jones boy's loved to compete and Ray lived for the day we would match wits and baseball skill's. Most I will miss seeing Ray coming down to our tryouts in early spring and his presence would announce to me that the ball season was on! I would like to also mention that I always told Raymond that he was the President of the Ron Balaski fan club. Well he was the only member of this club I never had a bigger backer than him. When ever I was feeling down or a little beat up from the negative stuff that comes with the job I could always count on Ray to boost my spirits up and generally make me feel better about myself. There's not many people you can count on to do this for you. That's a true friend! To Glen, long time friend and coaching Buddy. Having lost a best friend some years ago I pass on this piece of advice. Raymond will make you smile every day as you remember all those hours together on and off the ball field. Enjoy those moments as Ray would want you too. In closing as Ray looks down at us, in his fishing chair, feet up, cooler at his side, looking for the next big catch, I'm sure he is finding it amusing that such a big fuss is being made of his passing. To My Friend Raymond, every time I'm on the ball field next year I will gaze to the sky's and call Play Ball to you. Rest in peace.

Raymond,"Rubes" #22,my friend since we were 12,you playing for Newton allstars and me for Kennedy; it is with heavy heart I write this now but also a smile on my face as the great memories will never fade. Ray was a great catcher who caught for me in baseball for 11 yrs. He was a gifted athlete as well as a real smart player. I never had to think much with "Rubes" behind the plate, calling the signals. Occasionally I'd shake 'em off, and I'd get hit hard, he would let me know after the game...that's for sure. In our 20's Ray conned me into playing fastball with a case of beer, and I was the fortunate one as Ray and I were back together again for another long run, with Kenny (6 pack), at 2nd, Davey (the gun)catching, Rubes at 3rd,and me at short. We did a lot of winning but even if we lost, we were as close as brothers. Danny and Bob were always close by too, sharing in the fun. Robin and I eventually moved to the interior but Ray and I always stayed in contact. I talked to Ray on the phone not long ago and we laughed as usual about the great times together and of course talked Baseball. I will miss Ray greatly, but know he's up there having a beer with the "Esso Man" (Walt) and probably having a sandwich made by his Mom (Flo). RIP my lifelong friend. Bobby T.

There are people in this world that make it a more interesting place to be. Ray was certainly one of those. A great play would be made and then you could hear him in a loud voice saying "You're not that good!!". It was his way of challenging you and in a backhanded way complimenting the play. May he not rest in peace but go forward the way he lived, ALL OUT!!

I am going to sorely miss Ray and his cheery outlook on life, especially his passion and fight for the Little League program. As a coach and manager, he was an administrator's worst nightmare, but he could always make you laugh. As a coach and manager, he was the epitome of an outstanding role model to the young players about whom he cared so much. He has left his legacy in the hearts of a thousand different children.

I'm so glad we got to talk on the phone and had some laughs a few weeks before your passing. My heart is hurting knowing that I will never hear that distinctive voice again."Little Bins, why have hamburger when you could have had steak." May the memories you have left us all help to heal. Love to you and your family.

I will miss Ray. I enjoyed his presence when I was across the field and when I was an the same side of the field. I had many,many good laughs with Ray and I loved his intensity.
There will only be one Ray and I am glad I got to be his friend.
Rest in peace and give them hell Ray.

To the entire Jones family my thoughts are with you all.To the brothers I know Bob David Ken and Dan your brother was a real treat to get to know. I loved watching him play hard every game at Moody Park a bigtime in your face player who took no prisoners.He would come by a Mill I used to work at to sharpen the chipper knives a friend of Ray and me asked me what he was doing there so I told him to sharpen the chipper knives and his cleats LOL Duane Woods spilt a gut with laughter as he played with Raymond at Moody and knows his style.This really hurts to hear the fastball world lost a true character who everyone would love to play with as Raymond had your back no question a true fastball warrior.I cherish knowing you Raymond Jones you will be missed by many.Till we meet again my friend.RIP Raymond Jones your a awesome man.

Ray, the stories you told, the tears of laugher.  When you  needed cheering up, Ray was there.  Ray you will be missed and we are truly blessed to have been able to call you our friend. RIP my friend.

Ray was one of the few guys you meet and get to know well while fishing the river in the fall.  A real consistent fixture during the late afternoon evening bite.
I'm sure I'll often think of Ray in his absence, where he used to fish on the river rocks, as will many others.  
Ray's sincere smile, deep voice, and good heart will be sadly missed.

Ray both me and cody are gonna miss ur laugh and smile, fishin the river will never be the same with out u there. May u rest in peace at ur fav fishin hole

I absolutely loved Ray, he was so funny and entertaining.  He grew up with my brother Bobby T and baseball.  I watched many of his games and was at so many tournaments with Champagnes and the Orphans. He accompanied Bobby in our little red VW Bug every Sunday night one particular year back to UBC.  He was always asking me for dating advice - they were both 16 then.  Whenever he saw me in later years he would always say (I was single at the time) "Wendy why would you choose hamburger when you can have steak?" He was so very special and I will miss him terribly. My sincere condolences to the family.
