Born in Glasgow, Scotland, to Robert and Elena McLaren on January 31, 1937, Nicholas (“Nicky”) Peter McLaren passed away peacefully on July 29, 2022, at the age of 85, surrounded by his loving family.
Nicky emigrated from Glasgow to Vancouver with his family in 1988, and described his new home as “heaven on earth.” He was grateful every day to live here.
Nicky is survived by his devoted wife and best friend of 51 years, Maureen, his three adoring children Nicholas (Andrea), Joanne (James) and Laura (John), his brother Eric (Irene), and many nieces, nephews, and friends. His family was his greatest pride.
Nicky will be remembered for his keen intellect, his love of politics, Latin, ancient history, and New Orleans jazz, and most importantly for his incredibly kind and generous spirit, which was evident until the day he died. He will be dearly missed.
The family would like to thank sincerely the staff of Peace Arch Hospital, especially Jackie Nahirney (“Dr. Jackie”) and Liz Ford, and all the doctors and nurses at Melville Hospice Home who cared for Nicky so lovingly in his final months. We are forever indebted to you all.
A funeral mass will be held at Good Shepherd Church on August 8, 2022, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Nicky’s name to Peace Arch Hospice Society (https://www.peacearchhospice.org/ways-to-donate/).
Nicky, we love you ad infinitum.
