John died tragically while on a summer vacation with his family in Veranda Beach, Washington. He is survived by his wife and high school sweetheart Debbie, children Matthew, Ben and Olivia; his father John Mele Sr. (Noirin); sisters Chris Reid (Mike) & Jeannie Felski (Hank); mother-in-law Marilyn Hawes; brothers-in-law Rob (Lise) & Gary (Courtney); nieces Danica, Emily, Katie and nephews Evan, Theo & Henry. John was predeceased by his mother Toni Mele and father-in-law Ron Hawes. John was known for enjoying life to the fullest. Affectionately nicknamed “Johnny Good-times” and “Johnny Drama” by his closest friends, he accomplished more in his 43 years than most would hope to achieve in a lifetime. He was a well-known, active and respected member in the South Surrey community. Partners in Royal Lepage Westgard Realty with his trusted friend Chuck Westgard, the two worked together closely on many other business ventures. However, John’s proudest achievement and greatest legacy is his beautiful family. He was actively involved in all of his children’s activities as a coach or supportive spectator and nothing brought him more joy than to see each one of his kids grow, learn, and succeed. His family, many friends, numerous business associates and partners will dearly miss John. He was a bright light that was extinguished much too soon.
A Celebration of John’s Life will be held at Peace Portal Church (15128 27B Ave, Surrey, BC) on Wednesday, August 20th at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in John Mele’s name to the Peace Arch Hospital (15521 Russell Avenue, White Rock, BC).
