Our family was so saddened to hear the news of Janet’s passing - our hearts go out to you all.

We fondly remember growing up down the street from The Stewarts and sharing in family gatherings over the years.

Janet was my go to friend for anything musical, fun or adventurous. We met at HS and clicked in the auditorium which became home. We sang karaoke in the car (way before Corden) on our way to auditions and shows we were in about town. Janet was dancer, singer and accomplished actress.  Her wit and ability to converse  and include anyone in the circle was endearing.  I cannot say how very glad I am that we caught up recently and had memories to hold dear. Maddy, and Mike, you were the lights of her world. She shared her pride and love for you both with me often.  She will not be forgotten and I hold you all dear in my heart because of her.  Take strength from her family and friends as you go foward. Love to all the family. 

Janet was one of my first friends when I started at PW in 10th grade.  She made a 'new kid' feel welcome.  Luckily, we lived near each other and spent the next few years walking to and from school together, hanging out together and having great fun during drama class and productions.  She always wrote more than anyone else in my yearbook - wacky comments, inside jokes and hopes for the upcoming year that are still fun to read today.  She recruited me into her sorority, something I never thought I would do, but how do you say 'no' to Janet?  Good times and bad, she was always there for me, for all her friends.

We lost contact after I moved from Vancouver but did have the good fortune to see each other a few times in the last several years.  What a treat.  We picked up where we left off.  Mike, she was so proud of the life you two had built together and of your beautiful daughter.  Maddy, your Mom could not have been prouder of you.  She had your name picked out long before you were born.  I remember her showing me her favorite book, as a kid, Madeline.  She proclaimed, at 15, that she would name her daughter Madeline.  

Sandra, Beryl, Mike and Maddy, you have been through so much in the last few months.  My deepest condolences for your loss of Janet and thank you for sharing her with the rest of us.



Michael and Madeline, your loss cannot be imagined.  The loss we feel is only for having had the opportunity to enjoy being with Janet through you.  Her joy was always felt. 

We always enjoyed her company.  Our family times together, especially when the children were younger, were a lot of fun.  Christmas was always a special time Janet wanted to make for Madeline.  She juggled work and family and made it look easy.  She loved doing for Madeline and always bragged, elegantly, of her daughter’s successes.  She was a very proud Mother. 
We had a lot of laughs, a lot of chuckles, and her enthusiasm toward others and her wisdom was always appreciated.

Janet, you will be missed by all of us. You have left us all too early but you are in our hearts every day.


After 40 years of friendship it is hard to decide which memories to share.  I remember when we were still in high school, working at Eaton's and hanging out at the Olde Spaghetti Factory.  Later on at university there were lots of afternoons and evenings at The Pit and the Gallery. Those were years of sorority, sisterhood and the occasional spider.  One of my favourite memories from that time was the evening we spent at the Side Door trying to decide what to wear to an upcoming Halloween Party.  After 1 or 2 glasses of wine, we finally settled on me going as Penny Lane and you going as Strawberry Fields Forever (which we carried off with aplomb!).  

I remember when you met Mike and how happy you were to have found him.  I also remember when Baby Madeline was born.  I know she was so proud of you, Mad.  

While we have not seen as much of each other in recent years, I am so glad we had that last evening last year when Jeann was in town and we met for dinner downtown.  It was like going back in time and I will hold on to the memory of that night for years to come.

My heart breaks for Mike, Madeline, Sandra and Beryl.  I hope you can take comfort in knowing that Janet was much loved and will be sadly missed.

Very sorry to hear of her passing, Janet was a lively and fun person to work with, she was instrumental in introducing the City of Vernon to the Tempest product and I enjoyed working and connecting with her over the many years.  My sincere condolences. 

I worked with Janet at Tempest for 15 years.  I remember her last day at Tempest.  I was expecting it to be a difficult and emotional day but it was actually the opposite.  It was fun and relaxed.  We had a send-off at the office at the end of the day and everyone reminisced about the years at Tempest, including Janet sharing stories from the early years of the company, many of which I had not heard before.  Afterwards we all went to the pub across the street and the party continued into the evening.  It's a fond memory and as I've thought of Janet a lot over this last week, it's a memory I keep going to.  She will be missed.

I am so very sorry and sad to hear of Janet's passing. Although she may not be aware of how important she was to me, she was. Janet was a true friend to me. She was a support to me and my children, (Caitlin & Jillian) for many years. 

Although we had many great adventures together, my fondest memories of Janet were where the simple ones : when we put the kids to bed, put on the music and danced to our hearts content in her Family Room (with Mike standing in the Kitchen just shaking his head), or when we had the kitchen table covered with paperwork, sipping wine and laughing while trying to sort out a Year Book or Fun Night for the children's school.

Janet had a "wicked" sense of humour  and kept me laughing through all the many challenges we took on together with the PAC, from Elementary School right up to Graduation. Janet was always willing to "step-up" and take on a challenge.....the bigger the better! 

Madeline was also a very important part to our family while she was growing up and all our hearts go out to her. 

Mike was Janet's "rock"  and we are all praying for him to have continued strength as he goes on.



I was very sad and shocked to hear of the passing of my friend from elementary and high school years.   We shared many an adventure from birthday parties, sleep overs, a trip with the Choir to Europe where we  billeted together as well as high school cheerleading and theater productions.   Recently we reconnected on facebook after many years; and I could see how happy Janet was.  I am glad she was a part of my circle.   My condolences to her family and dear friends.  As I will be out of town for the memorial, a virtual big hug to Mrs. Stewart and Sandra.

I first met Janet at our kid's elementary school. Back then there were no school buses for field trips and parents were relied upon to transport the children. Janet was there to help. She was a devoted mom and volunteered always. My family moved into the same cul-de-sac as Janet, Mike and Madeline many years ago.  I loved our conversations and let me say that Janet was so proud of her daughter. She would always tell me with pride what Maddie was up to  and where she was living. The neighbourhood has lost a dear friend.  Derrik and I are deeply saddened for Janet's family and friends.  Mike and Maddie are in our thoughts and we are close by for anything you need. All the love to you both, your families and to all of Janet's friends.   

Janet was a talented and committed colleague.  I know her loss is felt very deeply by her husband, daughter, mother and extended family and friends.   May you rest in peace, Janet.  

Janet  we had such great times drinking in Val and Neil’s driveway after long hot days of work. So hot in fact we had to remove our bras and store them in our  patio chairs.  Halloween’s with fire works and hot dogs, New Years with Mike on the music  so we could dance without abandon. 
But most of all your crazy antics at the GFOA conferences.  The man walking the pig in Whitehorse, Stealing the Canuck t -shirt in Pentiction, 
The gold metal wearing of 2010 Jon Montgomery and kissing the toe .
Faking our identities to get to Whistler mountain top dinner, Good times. You were a hoot! 
So very sorry for your lose (and ours ) Mike and Maddy, a life cut short but lived pretty good from what we could tell.
Whatever you need we are up the street.

Words cannot express the heartache we feel for your family.  Janet was a fabulous lady that we spent many a Friday evening together watching our children growing up.  Janet was a big part of many lives and will be sorely missed. Micheal, Madeline, our thoughts and prays are with you.

Janet, I will never forget all of the fun we've had over the years.  The time in Disneyland when we almost forgot to curl Bailey and Maddie's hair when they had to dance early the next day, the great times floating down the Penticton River Channel, the hot dog barbecues at the Bowmont in Penticton, lunches when we were both working and many more.

I adored your quick wit, your humour and your intelligence and always enjoyed our conversations immensely.   Summer vacations at the Bowmont won't be the same without you!  We will miss you tremendously.

I will remember Janet for all of the great times we spent together with Madeline and my daughters Alyssa and Kelsey at dance events, fundraisers, trips, etc.  Those were really fun times and Janet was always there selling tickets, working front of house, or whatever was needed. She loved it all. 

I also had the privilege of working with Janet at Tempest for 18 years. She was extremely  intelligent, witty, friendly, caring and a huge part of Tempest’s success. 

Thank you Janet for all of the great memories and laughs. Wish I wasn’t writing this right now, life just doesn’t seem fair sometimes.
