With the heaviest of hearts we announce the peaceful passing of a wonderful Husband, father and Grandfather Jim Lynch. Jim passed away on February 14th at the age of 82, at Fleetwood Place Care Facility in Surrey, BC.
Predeceased by his Father Patrick Lynch, Mother Marjorie, Brothers Wayne, Ronald and Gary. Also, by his in-laws Tom & Winnifred Brough.
Jim is survived by his wife of 58 years Donna, sons Tom (Doreen), Kelly (Cindy), granddaughter Riel and sister Patricia (Neil). Also by his sister in laws Marlene, Brenda, Leslie and numerous nieces and nephews along with many family and friends across Canada, and the USA.
Jim grew up on Morley Avenue in Fort Rouge in Winnipeg and attended Churchill High School. After leaving school, Jim worked at a variety of jobs such as driving a truck in Churchill; Manitoba, selling vacuum cleaners and operating printing presses, where he was widely considered to be one of the best In the trade.
He found his true calling in life when he started his career in sales at Sears Canada later known as Heidelberg Canada. He was well known across Western Canada in the Printing Trade for being a tenacious salesman who was honest and fair, and fought for his customers. He was also famous for his willingness to use his expense account to wine & dine them well into the night.
Jim was a big-time sports fan and particularly loved his Vancouver Canucks. Not only was he a fan, but he played fastball, hockey and golf and loved downhill skiing and was known to be an accomplished cribbage player as well. Jim spent many happy years hunting and fishing and loved the outdoors. Anyone who golfed with Jim knew that he was not shy to take a mulligan or two. While playing golf once Jim remarked to Donna “you’ll never beat me and if you do I’ll buy you a new set of clubs”. Donna soon after, enjoyed her new set of Cobra Ladies as they golfed across Canada, US and Mexico.
Jim and Donna moved to Vancouver in 1993 leaving family and friends behind. A whole new life began for them in Vancouver and it was good both personally and professionally.
Jim was the Western Canada Sales Manager for Heidelberg Canada up until his retirement in 2004 after 38 years of service. It was remarked at his retirement dinner by the then President of Heidelberg "that while I am sad to see Jim go, I am happy to think of the savings the company will now have with his expense account off the books.”
Jim had a bigger than life personality and was always the first to arrive at a party (or anywhere) and last to leave, with a trail of dance partners in his wake. Anyone who socialized with Jim, soon knew how to make a “Boom Boom” (Bacardi & Soda with a dash of Diet Pepsi for colour),
Jim and Donna loved to travel far & wide. Trips were taken to Hawaii Australia, Germany, The Netherlands, Barbados and Mexico to name a few. They found a second home in Palm Springs amongst their many friends.
Jim suffered many health issues throughout his life, but he was a fighter and always found a way to pull through and come out the other end, seemingly none the worse.
Jim received amazing care over the years at Surrey Memorial Hospital and we request that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the Surrey Hospitals Foundation (https://www.surreyhospitalsfoundation.com/)
A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Tuesday March 1st 2022 at 11:00 am, at First Memorial Fraser Heights Chapel, 14835 Fraser Highway, Surrey, B.C. Reception to follow.
