Irene Mildred Leversage

Irene passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday January 16, 2021 at Fraserview Intermediate Care Lodge in Richmond, B.C.

Irene was born on November 5, 1928 in Holden, AB to Joseph and Gertrude Good, immigrants to Canada from Ireland. Irene was the second youngest of six children. The family moved to Goodridge, AB, where they homesteaded, and then while in her teens, to Edmonton and then Richmond, B.C.

Irene graduated from Sprott Shaw Business Institute in Vancouver, B.C. where she studied bookkeeping. Throughout her life Irene worked with numerous businesses and non profit organizations in Creston and Richmond, B.C.

On October 15, 1949 Irene married Gordon Leversage of Richmond and soon after they moved to Creston. It was in Creston that Irene and Gordon raised their three children and made many wonderful friends. In 1976 they returned to the lower mainland where they lived in Burnaby, Richmond, Ladner and Vancouver. This past October 15th, Irene and Gordon celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary.

The foundation of Irene’s life was her faith in God. Irene had a strong belief in fairness and equality. It pained her to see someone treated unfairly or taken advantage of. She was not afraid to speak up and offered support however and whenever she could. She always sided with the disadvantaged and was a true friend. Irene loved animals, especially dogs, but did not share the same passion for mice.

Irene is survived and missed by her husband Gordon, her brothers Harold and Ron Good, her children Gordon Jr. (Laurel), Joan (James), Jill (David), “adopted son” Paul Chiu, 8 grandchildren Tyler (Trista), Kirstin (Adrian), Brett, Alison, Kerri (Monty), Linsey, Duncan, Mitchell, 7 great grandchildren Piper, Dane, Zara, Chet, Hazel, Maeve and a little great granddaughter who is still a few months away.
