Ilene Dorothy Milne (nee Coult) was born September 18, 1926, in Regina, Saskatchewan, to Arthur and Queenie Coult. She was predeceased by her husband Bruce (2016), her brother Len, and sister Edith. Ilene is survived by her daughter Barbara (Mike), son Bob (Jenny), grandchildren Stephen (Kyla) and Erin (Kent), great-grandson Tyson, and step-sister Joy Penno.
The Coult family travelled west from Regina and settled in Vancouver in 1934. After high school, Ilene attended the Grandview School of Commerce from 1942-1944. Her first job was as secretary to the Bentall brothers at Dominion Construction. Ilene married Bruce Milne in 1951 and daughter, Barbara, was born shortly after. Ilene and Bruce moved to their new house in Renfrew Heights in 1953 where their son Bob was born. They lived in the same house until retiring to South Surrey in 1986.
Ilene was the best mom in the neighbourhood and kids were always at the house for lunch and playtime. She was leader of the PTA, a Sunday school teacher, a scorekeeper at Little League, a parent advisor at Job’s Daughters, and an enthusiastic cheerleader on the soccer fields at Clinton Park. Her enthusiastic cheers continued with her grandchildren playing soccer and figure skating.
After the kids left home, Ilene took a job in the ticket booth at Champlain Mall where she enjoyed many years of interaction with the shop owners and the local public.
Ilene suffered from dementia in her later years and spent the last part of her life at the Residence at Morgan Heights in South Surrey. We would like to thank the staff and medical personnel for all their loving care.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00am on Monday, February 11 at Victory Memorial Park, 14831 28th Avenue, Surrey, B.C.
